Yeah, best hurry to get that $100 discount for pre-ordering (it's still up) as I believe 401 should ship today, and the pre-order option and discount will be gone after that, eh.

And for those that don't have modo yet, it's unit price will be going up $100, to $995. If you buy 302 now, it's still $895 with a free upgrade to 401. So best hurry if you been even considering it. modo's the way modeling and UVing should be, IMO.

Yeah, I'm really finding it's modeling tools and workflow to be very smooth. It's snapping system and Absolute Scale/Explicit Scale tools are great. I haven't seen them in other packages.

I love the adjustable Workplane and Element Move Action Center, among other things.

I'm not familiar (that I know of) with this tool/operation. Are you talking about the scale tool dude, or something more in-depth that I may have missed up to this point?

Thanks.

Under Snaps and Precision (under modo's default layout) or on the Snaps Palette, at the bottom click "Absolute Scaling."
With the window that pops up, you can select two (or more) verts, polys or edges, and click "Grab Size." It will give you exact dimensions. Then, if you need to match up other geometry to specific measurements, select the verts or edges or polys you want, plug it into the numbers area under the "Explicit" section, and click the small "Explicit Scale" button. It will snap the geometry to the dimensions you input. I'm finding it quite useful for archviz.

Btw, how have you been, man? Haven't seen you on here in a while. Whatcha been up to?

Hey thanks Bells, that's something new I've learned as well. I wish I could upgrade right now, but I have to save up for a new set of tires for the car.
I am happy for you guys though. Looking forward to hearing what you think of 401.

Hey, thanks a bunch, dude! Ya know, I have never opened that palette, eh. I will have to read up and/or look for some of Brad's tut vids on it when I get some time. Thanks for the heads-up and the starter course. IMO, there's no tool not worth learning to use in modo. Just makes life easier in the long run, eh.

Been super busy with a gig, a Shatner-based website project that John Eaves recruited me for, building & painting and co-designing (with John, he does the mains, I do the detailing) seven space-craft. Sean Scott, also of pro Trek-dom, is doin' the animation of the ships.

It's called myouterspace.com (not up yet, of course), and is kinda like Project Greenlight meets the Sci-Fi genre, with Shatner as the Commander/figurehead of the whole project. It's an industry sci-fi / fantasy networking site, for pros and also for folks looking for a way to get a start in the biz. There will be projects to join, and eventually one will be chosen on merit to be produced.

The producer asked me to tell you all to come join once it launches, which should not be too much longer. I'll let you know when, at the time.

Thanks again for the modo tip, eh!

It's possible that it just hasn't "hit" everyone's accounts yet. deg3D mentioned last night that he got an email notification that 401 was in his account. I never received any such notification. So maybe it just takes a while to go around.

Has anyone found how to load a background image into the ortho viewports in 401? It's not in the same place as 302.

If anyone wants to speed up time (cuz the download can take a while) just do :

http://content4.luxology.com/downloa...o401_win32.exe or http://content5.luxology.com/downloa...o401_win32.exe
(You can change the number after content to use other servers)

The other tip is that you can use torrents to get the files. Just add.torrent after the url. Like this : http://content3.luxology.com/downloa...32.exe.torrent

Also, here is the Mac version http://content3.luxology.com/downloa...odo401_osx.dmg

Content also :

http://content3.luxology.com/downloa...ontent_osx.zip

http://content3.luxology.com/downloa...ontent_win.zip

You will still need to wait until the licensing comes throu thou but in the mean time...

Well if you drag and drop you'll get a Background Item, which isn't the same as the Background Image. They may have just done away with traditional viewport images though, the items are much more versatile.

Yeah, that's what I've been finding as well. Confusing at first, but more flexible.
