Default Movie & TV Related - Bulk build thread...anything...everything

Okay so I have been hearing the loud shouts about Sculptris and it's rather rabid followers chanting. Thought I should give it a decent kick before dismissing it entirely. Glad that I did. It is not a Zbrush bit is pretty neat little package. Especially considering it's price. Oh and on the up side it has a nifty little GoZ button so once you get tired(Sculptris) of, or have something you'd like to take further...Bam off to ZBrush you go.
One minus for me though...Kill a tree and give me a proper manual! Joking about the tree but still dislike PDF manuals!
This is what came out of a couple hours....
Pretty happy with the results considering the awful ref I had for a picture.

Does it have anything ZB won't once it has DynaMesh?

I played a bit with it myself and it is like a zbrush lite but for the price that's alright.

I do miss real manuals.

Until I try Dynamesh I can't really say. I'm thinking highly likely it will be uninstalled shortly after that release
For people on a tight budget I think this is a pretty nice alternative especially were you to pair it with Topogun.

Nice,
Is that the alien from Destiny?
Glad someone else is giving Sculptris a go. It's dead easy to use once you get the hang of it and use references.

If you need to get rid of that string bit on the arms you can use umm... okay, the reduce brush and the smooth brush. It takes patience to get rid of them. Sometimes I inflate a string and then reduce and smooth it to get rid of it that way.

There is a manual of a sorts, a simple text file. About a page of what each command does. (This was from an earlier version) there were directions on the right bottom corner as well. I shut mine off.

There are video tutorials out there as well.

I'd love to see LOD and more controls for the maps. I haven't checked the latest version... maybe it's there?
Never heard of Dynamesh...

Just diddling around really but one never knows. If time permits I might take it into Topogun and remesh it and then build the remaining parts. Like the skeletal arms and legs.
Yes Jekyll it is the Blue Alin (Nari) from SGU. Good to know it was at least recognizable. Thanks for the tip on smoothing. I do the same thing in ZBrush.
In this case though I don't need those so just deleted them as they will be removed when retopo'd

A quick render in Lightwave.

ok well it sure looks good atm and id love to see it finalised
and were they called "nari"? i never heard that..

LW render looks nice but a bit soulless and no bounce light to bring out more detail?

Nari was a name I found attached them on a wikipedia entry.
Just fooling about with this so no real rhyme or reason attached to it.
Perhaps something nicer once I take it a bit further.

Reminds me I should really play around with my copy of Sculptris!

I'll be watching this thread, should be interesting to see how you approach the texturing on this.

I have to date, never seen anyone put together one of the "Dumper" ships.
While rather odd looking I really liked them.

Texturing will/might be done in ZBrush.

Busy doing other things today but did this for a laugh.
Just some temp surfaces on the insane poly version out of Sculptris.
Again, just for laughs

Actually, that looks nice. It has some very subtle gradation in the colour.

Thanks Rigel. Was just seeing what a gradient would do in the ep/subep colour channels of the Fast skin node set to "incidence".
Looks absolutely nothing like the coloration in the show but like I said....just having some fun.
Felt bad about not upping a wireframe so here you go. Mesh sits at 207,430 polys.

That's looking really good. It's cool to see some Stargate Universe stuff being modeled. Never heard of Sculptris, will have to check it out & see how user friendly it is to use. When it comes to organic modeling, my modeling skills are pretty elusive...basically, I suck at it

Greg - have you given 3d coat's voxel sculpting a go? It's something I'd love to try but never have time to get around to.

Sorry no I have not.
There was a clause in the download about it's use I took as rather limiting in an art sense and passed it by. Have not checked back in on it to see if this has changed.
Being preached to in any fashion by a software developer, in any fashion rubs me the wrong way.

Was able to take it into Topogun today.
Once done back into Lightwave for the boney arms, legs and small metal details.

Looking good!
I googled Destiny alien and got a few, but I see what you mean about dark. Here they are anyway:

Some of the links are doubles. Higher resolution or wider shot so I kept them.
