After a long time, I thought I'd continue this project, but after looking at more reference, I've just restarted it, so there are parts from the old model but It's basically new as it was all poorly scaled and placed. I've been spurred on by doing B5. If I can do that I can do a MF.

This is going to be the ESB 32" version, however I'm planning on options, shown here is the side docking hatches from EP VII onwards. Obviously I'll have the bowtie dish as an option. I'm still undecided as to the underside larger pods added for ESB onwards as an option, but definitely there'll be the option for large lights on the underside to match the large scale set builds.

Anyway, this is the model that will break me.

Fleshing out the guns a bit. I'm going to have to put SW on to get some ref as to the interior...

The WIPs will be of lower quality generally - I'm modelling on the laptop instead of the monster machine to save power, and not always be away upstairs on the computer. The laptop is old and awful, so a few viper screenies is all I can do. This way, I can hang out and get an hour or so modelling in the evenings. That's the plan to drip bits onto the model and eventually get it done.

I'm in panelling hell Anyone who's really familiar with the falcon who looks at my 2004 model of it will see straight away the panelling isn't right on the main dish. I just kind of made it up to look like the falcon, rather than copying reference directly, which seemed like too much.

Now I have to copy the panels exactly as I see them, and it takes a long time to do. I'll be a week on the top part of the falcon at least I think...

It's well worth the effort Crook! You're an amazing modeler and this is a thing of beauty!

Crook. I have a boatload of refs if you need them. Some are posted here,
http://www.foundation3d.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=14150
but this was uploaded 6 years ago so my collection of ref pics is much larger now.

Yes I would love that. It's hard to find good reference for a few reasons. Pinterest being one of them, which I now hate with a fury like a death star explosion.

I don't mind a complete dump of ref from you if that's easiest, but in concept I'm making the ESB 32" studio model, so if you have a comprehensive set of just that then fantastic. I'll go to the 5 foot model at times, the ANH (pre adjusted) model at times, and the full scale studio model at times, in that order I guess. Because there's an active community of builders with replicas I want to avoid those and have them as a last resort. I don't mind photos of the original source model parts, like gearboxes and tank parts and stuff that makes certain parts easier to get a handle on...

Also, I'm using some of the studio blueprints for placement accuracy, but I don't think there's a lot about. I'd desperately need good blueprint style orthos for the front and rear - top and bottom i have and I think I can manage with.

Sigh - cockpit, gunner position, walkway ramp are all on the list as well. I've got some great ref on the cockpit so I think I'll be ok there. Gunner I've got some, but not enough (even though that's in the future). I'm sure there's more that I might be forgetting about, it's a stupidly complicated ship to model well.

TLR.....

Yes please!

Progressing on the panelling. About 1/4 of the dish done I guess, although the underneath is a little harder with the boxes.

Nice!! I feel your pain on the paneling and going for accuracy def adds to challenge! Can't wait to see your modeling of all the grebblies !

Ha, well you'll have to wait. The panels are so painful, literally in the mouse hand I'm about 80% done with the top dish section, then maybe a sweep of all the tiny boxes on the surface I've made. I need to find out whats under the dish next

EDIT: Top dish mostly done. Some weird normals issues that I need to sort out, but mostly done. At least, I'm going to move on to something else to keep it interesting.

While looking around I got the idea of making a death star. Here it is, but still a WIP - the dish isn't great and the lights need work. However, for long shots it's ok for now...
