Should be fine, though don't go direct, what I mean is go slightly right of centre when travelling to the outer arm. If you try and go to the left the stars there are spread a little thinner and you may end up back tracking a lot.

Mind you the plotter is waaay better than when I made the journey (only plotted 1k). When I went to Sag A* the first time I had to plot every jump manually near the centre

You should be able to plot from the inner to outer arm way in advance. Just do it

And GL

I'll give it a go, but probably won't jump back into the cockpit until at least Friday evening.

Yeah, the ability to plot a 20,000 LY route is a vast improvement!

I am waiting for the Distant Worlds 2 expedition. I won't go out there again before the last exploration updated for the game.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showth...Sign-Up-Thread

Spending all the time till then to max out the jumprange of my explorer cutter. I am at 40ly now and think thats the best i can get. At least without the Guardian FSD booster.

I don't have a high enough Imperial rank (Baron) to get a cutter, and I'm only a Lieutenant in the Federal Navy, so it'll be a while before I can get a Corvette. Still, the combination of Asp Explorer and Anaconda is good enough for me at the moment.

I seem to have a bit of a problem... I'm now just under 20,000 LY from Beagle Point, but after attempting to plot a direct route it fails at around 70% of the calculation. I'm a bit weary about trying to get a few thousand LY closer only to be forced to make a sizeable diversion, or worse still be in a position where I may be forced to reverse course back to the bubble. To get back to Sagittarius A* will require over 500 jumps...

Like I said, don't go direct, err to the right of the centre vertical of the map and you'll be fine, if you try to go straight there as the crow flys from Sag A* you'll run into trouble....that final gap to the outer arm needs a ship of 40+ to get across. My Conda had 41 when I did it and I had to backtrack once or twice, albeit only a few hundred light years. I could only plot 1K LY, do the same. Stay close to 0 on the map's vertical axis (largest star density).Go forward in small chunks of a few K LY's.

You can do it, but you'll have to go up and then left along the outer arm. Capiche?

I'll have a look at plotting along the outer arm as you suggest. Will have to leave the resumption of the voyage until the weekend, but will devote at least a week to the endeavour after I get back from Norway next month.

I do, especially since I've moved to PC (since buying an Oculus Rift).

I'm waiting to see what they've got for exploration improvements.

Most of their updates in the last couple of years have been heavily centered around combat, and that's something I just don't put a lot of time into. So I'm not playing near as much these days as I have in the past.

I'm still a few hundred jumps from Sagittarius A*, so will be ages before I get home. Only went online to download the latest update last night, but might try and get back into the game this weekend. Because I spend close to nine hours in front of a PC at work, I'm not generally in a good mood to do the same at home...

A question for all you space pilots out there: once you buy Elite Dangerous, is there a monthly fee to play?

Excellent. I finally got a new PC which runs games very nicely, so I am tempted to buy this game.

Welcome to the 21st century

New update coming end of month for ED, looks like they're adding extra grind to exploring but hey ho they're the game devs so they know best

To be fair a few nice addtions to the UI, addition of codex, new lighting engine and at long frakking last an orrery view for the system charts. Probably keep me logged on for a few hours before going back to Darks Souls 3

Extra grind? I think the new mechanics look great and like a lot of fun. And you still get the same amount of money for just the "honk". But now you can scan the planets without flying to every single one of them. Just by sitting at the star. That does save a huge amount of time. You can however make extra money by getting to a planet and launch probes to scan the surface. But even that looks like a fun little mini game. And at the end of it you have all interesting locations on that planet. So you don't have to fly over the surfaces for hours to find new volcanic vents and stuff. It does make exploration way more interesting and faster!

For me, that's a big plus. Have been out in deep space for the better part of a year, and only arrived in Colonia last week to sell my navigation data. I'm eager to make it back to Jameson Memorial and get back into the Anaconda, but I'm 22,000LY and around 550 jumps away, so the last leg of the journey is likely to take quite some time!

You MUST get horizons (If that's still a thing. It's the expansion that allows landing on planets) and you must be prepared for the depth of it. If you get into it, there's a lot to do

No seriously, I can't comment or upload stuff here half of the time because I loose connection...

To get back to Elite.
I haven't played for two months because I just didn't know what to do any more. I have two Cutters, seen everything, done everything and enough money too. So this new update will finally get me back in the explorer seat. Just a shame that they left the ice planets out...

I've never mined. I might when we can blow stuff up. I think I'm lucky that I don't have time to play. I'm a billionaire, but I've never seen a black hole, never seen an asteroid base, never seen a thargoid or engineered anything, nor winged up or made a power play pledge, or ranked up at all. I've got it all to come, with a game that's getting better. I guess I'll get pulled in as the game hits a sweet spot of completion.

I bought myself a Xmas present today. I discoverd that Steam has Elite Dangerous including the Commander pack on sale for $19.19 CDN. So I bought it!

I take there's some kind of friend's list feature in this game. If so, tell me your pilot name (either here or in a pm on facebook) so I can connect with you guys.

Inbetween various chores, errands and appointments today, I hope to crack this open and look at creating a pilot.

I picked up an extra copy of Elite for the XBOX One X for 16.00 during the winter sale, but sticking with the PC version for the time being.

Finally made it back to the bubble after nearly a year in deep space, and got my Anaconda back. Currently working through the Federal Navy ranks so I can get my grubby fingers on a Corvette. A few more hours of gameplay and should get to Post Captain!

Planning on doing another deep space exploration run in the new year, and to that end have traded in the old Asp Explorer for a Krait Phantom. Once I get the ship fully engineered, of I go...

Crook, but I'm only infrequent these days. I want to have a crack at new gold rushes. Recently got myself a mamba.

Okay, I got my pilot made; Sidewinder Jack.

I did some of the training missions. It took me quite a few attempts to figure out how to approach a station on super cruise! LOL

Started my game and I've done one mission.

Exploration is something I would like to do. I'll be doing some research to figure out how to make that work.

So far, I like what I see.

Cmdr Deipfryde. Don't ask, it goes back to my WoW days.. lol.

I'm out in the black right now, headed toward the rim and then maybe taking the scenic route to Beagle Point. I was bitching up a storm when they announced the exploration changes, but I have to admit I'm really digging it. Still waiting to find some of the more interesting things they added.

Exploration's really not that hard to get into. I've got dedicated ships for every purpose, so my Asp is specially kitted for long hauls. The only thing I've engineered is the FSD, and I've stripped out all extraneous components and installed some lower-end stuff that still meets the need but is a lot lighter. For example, I think I only have a Class 2 power plant in a Class 5 slot. Still generates enough power for the tiny handful of modules I have running at any given time. The ship has about a 54ly jump range, and that's still carrying shields and an SRV.

But, I've found myself not actually using it... I've set the map to Efficient routing, so it picks short hops, and I've narrowed down the types of stars that it will choose along the way. So I'm making jumps of around 15-30ly, and with my FSD as powerful as it is, those little hops burn hardly any fuel.

As for other modules, you'll want the ability to repair yourself, so I'm carrying an Auto Field Maintenance unit, and a small Repair Limpet controller that can fix my hull, which also requires storage space to carry the limpets. Seems like overkill, but I used the AFM a fair bit the last time I went way out (overheating around stars and black holes and the like), and I spent a good chunk of my last trip at around 60% hull after an unfortunate "landing" on a planet, hence the repair limpets this time around.

As always, there's tutorials out there that talk about how the systems work, especially since they just overhauled everything with this last patch.
