Question Star Trek - Pylon vent issue

Lightwave gurus, I need to pick your brains on the issue I have. On my Lexington model, the pylon vents won't show on the port side. In VPR and modeler, it shows fine. But as soon as I hit F9, they disappear. Surface is double sided and I've flipped the ploys twice with the same result. I cannot figure this out at all and it's driving me nuts!

I'm attaching the render and VPR stills to show what I'm talking about.

Any ideas?

Thanks. It's actually a Jayru/Todd Gunther design... I'm using it on a fan film.

Did you try to triple the affected area?
Btw there seems to be a slight poly problem on the front part of the nacelle.

Check for non planar and 2 vertices polygons

This looks like an N-Gon issue. You've got some bleed over of the polygon surrounding the vent. This can happen if you have an irregularly shaped polygon with concave and convex point flow. Like Lemon Wolf suggested, you could triple that polygon.

Let me try triping the polys. I can't see any polys covering the vents so I'll be d****d if I know what's going on. The starboard vents are fine. I'll post the results when I render it.

It's not that there are any polygons covering the vent. It's the render engine can't calculate the shape of that hole, so it fills it in. OpenGL is a cheat, not a true render, so it shows it just fine.

If you follow Treybor's advice, your render will look just fine! I've had this problem many times in the past.

Well, no success. There's no 2 vertices or non planar surfaces near those vents. Tried to triple it and Modeler would not do it. I deleted the actual vent and did a black border but as you can see, nothing affected it.

Now going officially crazy..!

Cut out everything but that piece and upload it? Then we could work on it and diagnose the problem. I think you've got related problems elsewhere on the mesh.

Update: I think I found out what it was. I merged a couple of polygons around the vent and suddenly, they showed up. I'm detailing the vents now and will post the results here soon. Thanks for the help, gang!

Default As promised...

Figured out the vent problem. Merged a couple of polys and they showed up. I detailed them all out. Thanks to all who gave input!
