Default LightWave - Unwinding around an axis

I'm getting lost in my experimenting!

I need to unwind geometry around an axis, in a very similar way to how a paper fan unfolds. So I start with a narrow wedge, and stretch it out around the apex, (or the other way round).

It's actually for unfolding a solar array, as seen in this short video.

I'm thinking in terms of doing this in modeller, (I can morph 1/8th of it at a time, between 2 versions), but any other ideas on how to animate this also welcome.

You could probably do it with a somewhat complicated bones set up.

I used a morph for one segment, then cloned it to cover 360 degrees, with each unfolding at the appropriate point.

I uploaded two videos, using Fusion to create one that was only 1M, but none would post, and I don't see an embedded ink above.
