Regarding commercials in the theater, hate them but............the studios take so much of the box office that they have to make money from somwhere, beyond just the 8.50 bag of popcorn. They are out to make money after all.

Since I don't go to theatres, I'm happy it's coming in September, I also just learned Prometheus will come out October 9, 2012, 3 days after my birthday so happy birthday to me. I never understood the attraction to theatres. I prefer to watch movies at home.

Necropost alert!

I finally got to see The Avengers film, and to my surprise I really enjoyed it.

I was never a fan of the comics when younger, too many of the members didn't seem to be proper superheros. I mean, a guy with a bow and arrow, and another who throws a disk around... And God knows why anyone would consider someone who turns into an ant to be a superhere...

But I think the characters were done very well, with just the right amount of humour, and the whole thing felt character driven. R D Jr did his usual excellent job as Tony Stark, Bruce Banner was a really sympathetic character, and the Hulk scenes avoided the usual complete impossibilities, (he couldn't lift say a ship by one end because he would need to be a whole lot heavier than the ship), and the guy doing Loki was great as the villain of the piece, at times actually scary, and he even managed to pull off the silly horns,

Even the rapid action scenes were done well, for once I did not feel nauseous, and there was always a clear sense of direction.

The weaknesses were probably the same as the comics - i.e. unnessesary fights between people on the same side, and a big dumb vehicle with the only apparent function of going wrong.

But I think a British sensor might have cut the line by Loki "This is my bargain you mewling..."

As a firefighter/emt for many years, it draws a certain type pf personality... They classify it as an Alpha type personality in fact (Needing to be in charge). I can see superhero's having it in abundance. When you have several alpha types in a group, fights or strong disagreements come up quite a lot... As in the movie, they fight till they have a common goal.

But, let us not forget that in the Secret Wars series (early 1980's) the Hulk held up an entire mountain so his team could get out from under it. Mind you, he didn't lift it, I think it was dropped on him. He just held it up.

Frankly, I'm amazed that made it through the censors over here. I'm under the impression that the rating board at the MPAA doesn't actually know what the word means. I'm sure they would have balked if he had called her a c**t, which is effectively the same thing.

It's just about orders of severity. Twat means the same but would pass by censors more easily because it's considered less severe. A victorian censor might have issue with quim but it's not used these days and so has little impact.

Marvel phase 2 kicks off shortly of course, with Iron Man 3 out next month. The latest trailer for which looks fantastic The build up to Avengers 2 has begun.
