Some rather neat looking free photoshop actions:
http://www.xprosoftware.com/eng/phot...ioni_pag1.html

Free software to turn a pair of images from slightly different viewpoints into a 3D mesh.
http://www.agisoft.ru/products/stereoscan/
I tried this on a mask and it struggled - but I thionk with the right objects this could be very handy.

It should be noted that these days most of these actions and plugins are for Photoshop CS and above.

I know it's a common one, but we've got to throw Blender in here. Awesome full 3D animation package, rivals the big guns on many levels.

http://www.blender.org/

And for alternate and preview releases with some very cool tools for Blender, there's Graphicall.

This one from Autodesk does the same thing but requires a lot more photos:

123d Catch

I haven't tried it yet but the models look pretty good.

Default Imaging on a phone

I've been thinking about my difficulties in keeping more major projects moving, given the pressure of the day job. Also the effort taken to learn new programs, which has similar issues.

Something kind of clicked - since I last looked at this stuff, work provided me with an iPhone 6+, and the screen is great, (though I still prefer the way Android works overall).

And the phone is with me all the time, plus programs for it are really cheap, and generally easy to use, so perhaps if I start looking at imaging and graphics applications for phones, I can be productive on the way to work, and pretty much any time I have a bit of free time. maybe I can get lots of small projects done, or find new stuff that is easy to use, and cheap to try.

I've already found 2 apps I really like.

"Lapse It".
Time lapse video application. Free version turns off advanced controls, and limits resolution, but its good enough to be fun, and I just went for the full version. Here's a test I did, one frame a second, simply hand holding the phone up to the front window of a London bus:

2 for the full version, I'm looking forward to trying it.

http://www.lapseit.com/

Also something I heard of a while back and never got around to trying, Photosynth, free from Microsoft.

This is a spectacularly easy pano stitching program. You just slowly move the camera around, and the software automatically spots when to take an additional images, then does a pretty much instant stitch.

Completely free.
https://photosynth.net/

And from that web site it looks like it's getting a lot of development too.

These are great apps, but since the latest iPhone OS update your iPhone 6 has time-laps built in as an option. Just select it from the camera. I have also found that the built pano feature is on a par with most of the free apps out there. I used to used Lapse it and though it was great but with the new built in feature I have found myself using it more than Lapse it.

Krita
https://krita.org/

A free and quite powerful alternative to photoshop. Some interesting features including the ability to paint seamless textures.
