Thats right is it? The XBox is for your daughter?

Believe it or not yes. She has been going on about getting one since I sold my Xbox 360 last year. I lost a year of my life playing multiplayer Call of Duty and ditched it. But, since it will be here, I really fancy trying my hand at Alien Isolation. She's of an age that we will play some dual player stuff too.

How do you mean?

I mean I was additively playing COD for about a year, so sold the machine.

No, but you can say that about any pursuit. I lost a year of my life hiking. What a waste of time. One hill is like any other. Isn't life basically about finding things to do to keep yourself amused?

It's not an easy game to start with little training. You need to refer to the options for what does what, and do the tutorials.

Finally got it running on both the laptop and System 2 - the keyboard and mouse controls on the laptop are pretty useless, but I got a Saitek X-55 Rhino H.O.T.A.S. for Christmas (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9A3Chs36mKM), and this is such a joy to use. I'm still working my way through the combat tutorials, and I'll still need plenty of practice with docking and landing, but I've been extremely impressed so far.

Docking is always hit and miss for me, literarlly!

Sometimes I can pull it off without a scratch, sometimes I just batter the thing around for ages before I find that one sweet spot where it will admit I have landed.

Don't have a problem with docking myself. I get a little heavy on the throttle and will occasionally slam into ships that sneak their way into the access corridor when I'm not looking. But that's what shields are for.

If anyone's interested, there's a big movement in the Ho Hsi system to push the balance of power over to Jet Comms Corporation. It may sound silly, but concerted player efforts have started to shift the balance of the influential parties, and last night the system fell into open civil war, so there's plenty of fighting to be had now. And most of the players are emptying the skies of Ho Hsi Corp ships, I don't know how long it can last.. hehe. So yes, the player-affected, persistent galaxy is the real deal.

Seeing as how badly I apparently suck at combat, I probably won't head over there until tomorrow. I've got all the weapons I need, but a few more minor ship upgrades (which means I have to earn the money to buy them), and I'll be doing my part.

Hmmm.

Finally got some time to try this, with my new joystick.

The joystick seems to be working, but the response for some things is so slight, (acceleration for example), that I'm wondering if it's really working properly. I'm really hoping I don't have to use the keyboard to work it...

Got the game now too. The travelling is a bit frustrating at the moment. But I guess I just need more practise.

I think travelling is really okay, you just have to watch out for interdiction spheres and suns. Plus you have to plan the travel if you go too far. I love the game so far... i usually go and run missions for Federation, escorting valuable cargo haulers for my friends ( trust me, that is a good job ) and sometimes just go and explore.

Few more bounty sessions then I'll trade in my Viper for a Cobra, and start decking that one out for hunting / hauling.

Cobra's a pretty good mid-range ship. Add a few cargo racks and it's got decent capacity. And, of course, weapons... my Cobra isn't nearly the soft target that pirates seem to think it is.

I had Elite: Frontier for my Amiga back in the 1990's. I loved that game.

Avoiding this one because a) I shouldn't spend money on new games right and a b) no Mac version (I'm saved!).

Yet (I'm doomed!).

Its coming along nicely although i pay in a group (Moebius).

Im still wondering how long before we see aimbots, exploits and such only time will tell but every major games company says there title is secure and then it turns out its not.

They caught some exploits during a server-side bug a week or so ago, people taking advantage to make billions of credits. It's all been removed, and although I haven't heard any specifics, I'm sure at least some accounts were probably banned.

As for aimbots, the game already features weapons that automatically target enemies, so that would be kind of pointless, IMO. Besides, this game isn't competitive like a shooter, there's really no benefit to the person using it.. there's no rank or money to get, you don't earn anything for killing players.

Well i hope that is the case Jedi2016, i have to admit i was one of those that brought into it originally in Beta because it was meant to have an offline mode.

Very disappointed that it did not eventually have one, business wise i understand the reasoning but i have no dire need to interact with anyone else and from what im seeing at the moment very few people do interact. Maybe later as the updates progress.

The thing is essentially we are still in Gamma, they have released the game to early because they had to for business reasons and now we await the updates to add in the things that were originally promised during kickstarter.

I have some high hopes for the game eventually being what we all want it to be.

There are two modes, open and solo, if you chose solo you will never encounter another real player, and there are no downsides to doing so, should you wish to go into open, you are only a save away.

You are always in the same part of the universe no matter which mode you play.

This can also come in handy if you are playing in open and someone is hogging all the pads on a station, just save, and load back into solo, suddenly that station is empty.
