I would like some advise in regards to weaponry - I've mainly used a combination of gimballed Beam Lasers (two large C3) and turreted Multi-Cannons (two medium and one large F2), plus a couple of point defences, and shield boosters/cell banks for defence. I use the lasers to take down shields, then pulverise the hull with the cannons. Any suggestions regarding weapon combination would be greatly appreciated...

The reason I've all but vanished from this forum is because I spend just about every waking hour playing this game on my xbone.

I've just bought myself a Federal Assault Ship and I'm about 50% of the way to A speccing it. Pity I'll lose it next week when the game finally launches, although if I can get my federal navy rank high enough I'll be able to get it again.

I've also got an A spec Imperial Courier which is an awesome little beast.

Any of you guys playing on the xbone?

It has become something of an obsession. Is there such a thing as Elite Players Anonymous?

Well, you could try making a lightwave model of your Elite ship!

I was going to model my Clipper, but I spend too much time popping Edmund Mahon's federal agent ships - I fight for the Imperial Poster Girl

I thought he was Alliance not Federation. Mind you I've not gotten involved with the powerplay.

HE is, and I'm on Aisling Duval's side (PP) - I'm blowing HIS ships up

The ships are still marked as 'federal agent' - prolly an oversight by FD

BTW Tony, I think xbox + PC players share the same galaxy on release, though I need to check if cross platform co-op is possible.

Cheers!

Last week we (Xbox players) were migrated from our servers onto the same ones being used for the current PC beta / stress tests. I believe next week we get migrated onto the main PC servers.

Al this means is that we will share the background simulations, powerplay, etc. As far as I know there are no plans currently to allow crossplay although I would not be surprised to see this in the future.

Do you not have a PC capable of running it Tony? How come you got it for Xbone (not that I've got anything against consoles). Just wondered.

Chars fella

Beam lasers tend to run too hot too fast. I have C3 lasers on my Vulture, and I ended up just going with pulse lasers. Smaller ships can't take more than a few hits, and they're accurate enough to tear up power plants on bigger ships easily enough. I can go toe-to-toe with an AI Anaconda in that thing. And I've even upgraded it more since then.

As for the console versions, I'm all for people getting to try this game out, but I just wouldn't be able to play without my HOTAS and head tracking. Hell, I just ordered a Saitek X52 the other day to upgrade my Thrustmaster, and this is the only game I play with it.

And voiceattack is becoming fairly mandatory for me. It seems to be freezing after a time for me. I've got a new mic that I'm going to test in the mic jack plug rather than the all in one USB headphones/mic setup to see if I can do it for long periods. But also the webcam for trackIR freezes too, so it may be a USB issue somewhere along the line, but that's diagnosis for long play sessions, and I don't get the hours I'd like to to pour into this game. Had it since beta and still only made it to a nebula the other day. Still not got to a black hole and only flying a Vulture.

I'd like to grind to a python as fast as possible, but alas, time....

I got it on PC as a backer but my PC can barely run it so I can only really play the xbone version.

Glad to hear you 'earnt' the rank for it like I did way back. Annoyed the hellouta me they gave 'em away in the CG recently.

Rofl at yer balance, that wouldn't cover the rebuy on mine, be careful fella

Best setup I found was 2 x c3 Beamers and 2 x Multi's under wings. Also 4 x A0 shield boosters helps. It's a good smuggling ship, but a bit brittle for combat (if not best shield fitted). They look the bomb tho

Gratz

Edit : If you're interested I can post my loadout screens if ya like.

Currently, I've got four Multi Cannons (two turreted on the wings, and two gimballed on the fuselage), plus four A0 Shield Boosters. I have a B5 shield generator (which I'll upgrade as soon as possible), and have maxed out the Reactor, Power Distributor and FSD. I did briefly experiment with two medium Plasma Accelerators, but they were literally hit-and-miss (mostly miss!)

Just installed the latest beta, and have gotten my hands on the Cobra MK IV - I'll have a go at driving the Scarab around the planet's surface after work tomorrow...

It's pretty good but with flaws. It's complicated to get in/ out of the srv and tricky to drive - there are no default bindings for my x52 hotas which threw me at first.

The planet surfaces are technically great, I can appreciate what they have done, but the detail looks last generation, as we naturally compare them to other games with surfaces. No caves, overhanging features. It all seems smooth and melted and the rocks dotted around look out of place.

If this is the beginning then fine, but if this is the end then I think it will be looked on as a missed opportunity to do something more visual.

Can't deny I've had fun with the game, but agree with Crook the whole thing looks last gen. I think the colour pallette has something to do with it, it's all too bright and vivid.

Haven't bothered with the last two beta's, having too much fun with LW and filling the 'what I can do' toolbox. I'll prolly jump into it again early next year. I have a Lifetime Expansion Pass, so it's all covered.

For me it has hit a sweet spot where I don't have enough time to dedicate to it, so it keeps bringing me back. I can make 20 million a session (about 3 hours) but am only at 50 million credits, which shows how often I get to play.

I like the space simulator idea as well as old elite and I'm looking ahead to the VR revolution in 2016 to ride it further.

Hopefully now they have a terrain generator they will be able to ride a wave of increased GPU performance and just notch up more polygons as time goes on, improving the look as they enable atmospheres and other planet effects. Space Engine looks better but isn't a full game like ED. They need more ambition with planets.

Have to be honest Mike, it IS fun, but it's a huge time sink to progress from start to largest ships even if you powergame it. Think of WoW time sink. I played since launch in two stints of a few months and have the best ships (minus the 1.5patch) and over 300Million credits banked.

Also for an MMO, the networking is s***. Instead of dedicated servers they took the cheap option of P2P and it makes group play a bit of a nightmare.

If you're looking for a solo experience though it's fine.

They say there's a ten year road map for expansion etc, so it'll get better than it already is, but you gotta have patience.

Cheers

I'm really jealous of you PC players getting to land on planets, there's still no word when we'll get it on xbox.

Robigo mines long range smuggling run in an asp. 82T cargo, but full A rated scoop, no weapons and about 31LY jump range. Take about 10-15 missions per run, evade all interdictions and deliver all your small cargo for about 800k-3mill per drop off. The scoop allows you to refuel in seconds so you're not hanging around.

But get it while it's hot - long range smuggling has been wiped from the newest betas, both 1.5 and 2.0, so the robigo run wont last longer than a few weeks at best now.

Probably because players are making money too fast with it.

That seems to be FD all along. Introduce random gameplay elements, and when some pop up to be too profitable, tweak them downwards. They seem interested in prolonging the grind to achieve credits, rather then providing ways to accelerate credits as your ships improve in quality, or alternatives to credit generation.
