Default Star Wars - Imperial Ambush

Greetings all! How's everyone doing? Just looking at the date of the recent posts, is it just me or has it gotten quiet around here?

Facebook recently reminded me that it's been years since I consistently worked in Lightwave, and that gave me enough motivation to finally open the program again and do something. I've been away for a good long while (during which time I managed to graduate college and move my life forwards a bit), but I'm back - or at least I intend to be more active again.

I may have gone a little to far with the grain, but I wanted this to feel like models photographed/composited on an old, high asa, film stock. Maybe I'm just feeling a bit nostalgic.

Anyway, It's good to be back at it again. I'm calling this image finished, but suggestions or tips that will help in future renders are always welcome.

A nice pic to return with. I never got the knack for Star Wars lasers, but those are on the money.

I had a similar thing a few years ago where I decided to do a render a day for a while just to prove to myself that I still had my mojo.

And, yeah, between the old user-base aging up into the less-free-time stages of life, social media crowding out forums, and the server being spotty and making it hard to reliably access the site, things have been getting quiet.

Thanks guys! As to the lasers, I feel like these are too thick still, but they were the best I was able to come up with. I mean to keep working at them in future renders.

How long did you go for (with your render a day)? I think I remember seeing you working on that. It's a great idea, but I couldn't manage a render a day. Even one a month will be a vast improvement over my recent record.

Sorry to hear I wasn't imagining it and things have gotten quiet. Last time I regularly checked in it was still active as a beehive here and posts would be pushed out of the first page of results pretty quickly. I recently realized the models I was working with are 16 or 17 years old at this point. They're still great, but there seemed to be a tremendous amount of output back then. It's a blessing for those of us who can't model.

I made it a full 100 days. I will admit, they got kind of ropey near the end. And for parts of the middle. And a couple near the beginning. But there were plenty of good ones, too.

Chris Kuhn seems to have been single-handedly recapturing the fan-model magic of those days.

Yeah, very quiet. Most days I can't get into the site at all.

That's a lovely pic mate.

Hey stranger! Nice render. I have only done one Star Wars render but it didn't look this good.
