Default Movie & TV Related - LEXX Spaceship

It's been a while since i've last posted anything here well i've had some personal problems so i was a bit inactive in terms of 3d modeling and stuff any way i've got my excuse so back to the topic. I've been working on it on and off for quite some time for Tony and finally i can see the end so thought its time for a thread. I must admit it was a pita to work on due to low res reference materials and differences in ship design in every season so I had to make mix and match. I know its not very accurate but best i could do under circumstances. Now the fun part starts sculpting fine details but that'll be like walk in the park

I'm currious to know how you added the eye prongs, care to share your technique?

I've made two versions one with emitters as completely separate meshes, and one version with two shells with emitters connected check attachments. i've used alot of replicators on this one.

It's for 3D printing so heavy on polygon count what kind of mesh you have in mind SDS or regular triangulated mesh? i can't promise anything but maybe i'll be able to export simplified SDS mesh with displacement map for sculpted details.

Its a typical B rated scifi show somewhat akin to Farscape. However, the Lexx is a sentient ship capable of destroying a planet.

A regular mesh (triangual or quad) would be best I think.

And small update i've managed to sculpt something out after a week of struggle with my PC ok it was my fault mesh was too dense but in the end I was able to export tessellated mesh at 4 mln polys without a crash btw don't mind jagged edges on screengrabs that's a .stl mesh. Now i need to put everything together make some renders and i can finally close this project

I was able to import back all parts to one scene but i didn't had enough RAM to make a render so just screengrabs.i think that's all i can sculpt without ram upgrade

I really hope we are going to some high res renders at some point, all that detail deserves it!

Yes that's the plan right now it's unusable in terms of rendering and texturing i need to retopo some parts and bake displacement maps.

As i promised orthos sorry just screengrabs for now.

Hi Guys,
A few up dates. Chris was doing this mesh for me as its going to be turned into a kit.
I have run some test parts and off set thickness for the frame section that encloses the tail section.
I ran the frame on Shapeways strong white flexible material with positive results. At this scale the kit will be about 25" long . The body section was run on a powder printer yesterday and looks very promising . Its dia are 11.5"X 10"x5".As it is organic in nature the texture will be negligible. After clean up and primer it will be perfect.I will also be adding texture with gels. used the same process on the Farscape Pilots console. Turned out great.
He also working on the Moth shuttles that they used in the series and that will be a kit also.
More pics to come .

Hi Guys,
NEED SOME HELP.
Chris did a great job for me on the LEXX and im running the parts as we speak. I ran into a problem that you might be able to help with.
The emitters that cover the eye surface all need to be facing the same direction. There is a divider line that crosses the middle of the dome part that should be horizontal to the plane of the ship. In the series these opened like eyelets.
As you can see in the image they are in all directions . I work in Magics but there isn't an application that will allow me to rotate them in place without moving them off an X or Y axis.
I work in stl format but can convert it to just about any other media.
Can any one help me with this problem?
Thankx Tony
