Vulture is an awesome ship, and once you can afford it the FDL is another nice ship.

Thx for all the help it should be really useful especially the page you linked
However i am not sure about getting a Vulture, it seems to be combat oriented.
I kind of like exploration and delivery missions
Oh dear those detailed surface scanners and discovery scanners are expensive
Is there a nice ship that could do exploration, delivery missions and maybe an occasional bounty hunt? Some kind of Multipurpose?

Btw i found a decent way to escape interdictions and a way to keep enemy npc's in front of me. When i normal space i use boost to get to full speed then toggle off flight assistant to make a very quick flip maneuver. That way i can keep the NPC in front of me(pips to sys) while moving away from it, then escape to another system.

Love the Vulture. She needs a bit of power management fully kitted out, but can go toe-to-toe with the big guns in the right hands.

Honestly, the best bet is to have dedicated ships for each purpose. It goes back to the old "jack of all trades, master of none". If you don't maximize for a particular purpose, you're not really getting the full benefit of whatever role you're doing. I remember being pretty overwhelmed early on at the idea of having more than one ship because of the costs involved, and now I have three.

I've got an Asp Explorer, kitted out for its namesake. It has around a 30ly jump range, an excellent fuel scoop to keep it topped off, and not one, but two repair units (the second, smaller one is just for repairing the big one, since it can't self-repair). It has very weak shields, just enough to keep it from taking any hull damage when I do planetary landings whilst out and about. You don't want to put really high-end shields because they take up a lot of mass and will reduce your jump range. I'm also running with weapons, but most explorers don't (and I probably won't again, at least not any big ones), and with my weak shields, they'll never be able to kill anything before they kill me. It also has a pretty low-end power plant, distributor, thrusters, etc... I don't need any of that stuff and it lightens the load, extends my jump range. Add in the SRV and such, and it has zero cargo space. Really good for exploration. Not so good for really anything else. It's what I'm in right now, about 25,000ly from human-occupied space and slowly approaching the galactic core from an outside angle (I took the scenic route around the outer edge).

On the flip side, I have a FDL for combat. Crappy jump range (the FDL tops out at around 13ly) and not a lot of cargo space (maybe 8-12 tons, I think). But it has really big guns and unbelievable shields and boosters. It can take a whoopin' and dish it right back. Really good for combat, and... yeah, not really all that good for much else.

I did have a trading ship at one point, a Type-6, I think. No weapons, no shields, no nothing... except a good FSD and every last internal bay filled with cargo racks. Great for trading and... you guessed it, not much good for anything else. Honestly, trading wasn't netting me as much money as bounty hunting... my FDL can take on anything one-on-one (or at least it could, before the patch.. I won't be back to the bubble for a while to try out the new AI), and I was making way more money in an hour in a Resource Extraction Site than I would with an hour of hauling stuff around. And far more exciting, too. Same for mining.. the money was okay, but it was pretty boring. Ended up selling the Type-6.

That said, there are plenty of ships that are classified as "multipurpose". The Asps, the Diamondbacks, the Cobra if you're starting out (I ran one of those for quite a while), even the Anaconda.

It'll get a lot easier once they allow us to store and swap modules for the ships. That way, we can have a set of modules that's good for combat (big shields, shield boosters, big guns w/upgrades, upgraded thrusters, the whole nine yards) and then when we feel the call of deep space, we can toss in a souped-up FSD, scanners, a bigger fuel scoop, and some repair units, and lose all the other stuff to lighten the load, without having to spend a huge amount of money and resources to do it. Hopefully that'll come in the next year or so, and then when I get my Anaconda I can set it up that way. FWIW, I plan to kit out the Anaconda initially as combat + missions, so it'll have SRVs and at least a moderate amount of cargo space, but it'll be worthless for exploration because of all the extra mass from the shields and weapons, and I won't be wasting resources upgrading the FSD.

Multipurpose would be the Asp I guess, but I agree, it's probably better to own a fleet and swap as you like. For example when exploring there's no swapping your ship, so make it a dedicated explorer.

I would have posted an image of my newly acquired Type-9, but some bugger flying a Federal Corvette blew it to bits - I was transporting over 300 tonnes of Imperial Slaves at the time, and consequently lost a lot of credits in the process...

Oh yeah.. been there.. lol. I remember seeing that star pattern from quite a distance before I could even find it on the galaxy map.

Took a much longer route this time. Scenic route to Sagittarius A*, stopped by Jaques Station for a pint, and taking the scenic route back home. Still don't think I'll make it back before September, as I only get a few thousand light years a week.

It took me forever to realize that they are in the nebula.
Saw them too from the distance. I was in another nebula at the time. They are kind of hypnotising. So I set course in that direction. I didn't explore all of them because I want to get back to human space an update my FSD before I set course to Jaques Station.

Don't play these days, a lot of reasons. I went to Beagle point early this year and left my ship parked about 22k ly out for about 4 months.

Flew back to port a couple of weeks ago, and yeah :-

Won't play again until atmospheric planets are done, fed up with the constant rebalancing and lack of bug fixing due to Dev ineptitude

Well i can't say much about rebalancing. Maybe because i don't try to fight.^^ But I like how the story around the alien stuff is evolving. It feels like contend.
And i am certainly enjoying the view.^^

On my way to Jaques Station. Anyone else?

I arrived at Herschel 36 today.

Some very interesting systems nearby.

Two B-Stars so close that I can't fly through.

Default 10 units of Painite

Hey Commanders

I was wondering if anyone willing to trade with me. I need 10 units of Painite for the SELENE JEAN engineer unlock, Yeah I know it's costly and rare material. Unfortunately FD did not include storage at the stations and I'm unable to switch to my mining ASP without losing my cargo. I have collected lots of other materials please see the pictures, let me know if anyone wishes to trade.
I'm @ Shinrarta Dezhra/Jameson Memorial

Thanks..

Edit: All good Got it....

I guess they are big enough.

Another pic with all three of our wing that made the journey.

Ad an extra tank and a good fuel scoop. I had to refuel every 7 jumps and needed some time to do it. Although i had a jump range of 38lj, I wish I had dumped the big cargo hold for an extra tank. ^^

The lack of storage always bugged me about the game. I wish we could buy personal storage. I had so sell and do other upgrades on my ship then so I could switch to mining ASP and get that Painite.. But no we have to drag it everywhere we go...

That might change in the next view updates. I think they are looking into that.

In the meantime I bought a Typ6 at Jaques station and made it a mining ship. That way I don't loose parts of my ASP.
Although i did go back to exploring around the station, because the CG will give much more money than mining. If i stay in the top 25%.

And as always I am enjoying the view. ^^

I found this on the Google Play store:

http://alite.mobi

This is essentially Elite for Android, and the port is based on the old Amiga version - it plays surprisingly well on my Nexus 6P, and is completely free!

Had a long journey back to the bubble. After i gave up reaching Sag A*. The route plotting was a mess. So half way between Sag A* and Jaques station i decided to get right up (to get out of the dense starfield) and then back. It took me a few days, but it was an interesting journey.

For everyone who wants to travel to the core. Do it above the galactic plane!

Nice view from above:

And no star left above me: (you do feel a bit lonely up there )

Twin Waterworlds above the galaxy:

Nearly home:
