Default Making money.

I was just curious - are any of you making money via content sale sites? I'm strapped for cash and was wondering if it was worth the effort making iphones, raptor drones, water bottles, chairs etc and selling them, or whatever sells really.

yes but its minimal to say the least unless you have a huge library of models in various categorys, but yeah it is possible to make some Money if you arnt greedy with pricing, def wont make you rich tho and like i said unless you have a huge library it wont be paying your rent

I've made some from turbosquid. Not enough to live on. But enough to buy a resin 3D printer.

That sounds like a bonus. If you don't mind, roughly over how long, and how many models? I don't need to pay my rent with it, just bring in something.

Apart from 3D, are there any other obvious money streams? Clipping / editing photos, scratch removal, that kind of thing in ps?

I´ve tried selling a couple of models on Shapeways with little success but never really took it seriously, maybe I should, I could use a 3d printer

Its harder to make money nowadays, everyone seems to think 3D models should be given away free, you mention money and they just leave the conversation, you don't even get a goodbye, even if the amount of money in question wouldn't even get you a meal out for two.

That's true, i don't know if you remember but when I started looking for someone to make my Nova (thanks again, I still love it) I was accused of trying to get something for free just because I refused to tell what I was willing to pay for it, I got a great deal from you. I just didn't think it was anyone's business but ours what I paid you for your work, I knew I wanted a quality mesh and I was willing to pay good money for it. People also got mad when I wouldn't let them use my mesh for free. I got called selfish by one poster on scifimeshes and he was eventually banned from the site for harassing me.

You're absolutely correct. The dollar amount for the job isn't anyone's business. A member, some years ago, paid me to build a model of the Fesarius (Star Trek) for him. We didn't tell anyone what money was changing hands.

Sadly, people think everything should be free; meshes, books, movies, tv shows. The human race is doomed, I tell you.

Funny enough, I subscribe to that mainly. Like Lord of the Rings - Tolkien is dead now, so he can hardly benefit from profits on his work. Screw his estate (pardon my french). I tend to provide my meshes for free because I made them for fun.

A few people are cagey about money - I'd prefer a more upfront marketplace so people know where to go.

The only caveat is that I'd want payment if a big business used a model or work of mine. Profit goes to the creator and no one else would be as good a way of saying it as any.

So is my Nova, it was worth every penny I paid biotech. This pic was after it was converted to Lightwave and needs some tweaks.

Its been a long time since I made a starship.

The last thing I made was a replacement head for a toy.

Which was also my first 3D model I actually got to hold afterwards.
