Yes, there's the chestnuts plug in. There's a link to it somewhere on CGTalk I think, but it's not easy to find.

Here it is:
http://homepage2.nifty.com/aquawave/...hestnuts5.html
and this is the link to it on CGTalk:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthre...uts#post456094

I'm afraid the actual page with the explanation on chestnuts is in (I think) Japanese - but at least you can get the actual plug-in on page 5 of the aquawave link.

But really, as far as I can tell - the chestnuts plug-in just does the selection of various percentages of faces, then using it again on the same model with select a reduced number of faces from that 1st set (if you change the percentage).

I.e. using chestnuts, select 70% of the available faces on a well divided cube, bevel or (extrude or whatever), then use chestnuts again to select (for instance) 70% of the previously selected faces and bevel (or extrude or...) again - or change the selection percentage and select 30% of the original 70%.

I've found that I do sometimes have to deselect some of the faces chosen by chestnuts, or I'll be extruding something I'd rather not do... It's okay for distant work, i.e. greebles only seen in the distance but not for close-up models.

By the way - can we upload greebles made by modellers other than Lightwave then? Does it matter which modeller?

Elowan (or anyone else) - if you're interested in doing more industrial-type greeblies, I'm an operator at a power plant, so I can take pictures for you of virtually every type of valve, level controller, sensor, limit switch, gage, selector switch, 480 motor, 4160 motor, circuit breaker, etc., that you might want.

If you can do it without violating protocol - go for it.

You'd need the author's permission if the mesh is not your work.

I think they meant non Lightwave meshes.

The rules apply - if they did not make them - get permission.

OTOH - if they did make the meshes then - as long as they include an obj version - they can knock themselves out.

Reference pix. I took 143 of them today, and I have them in a ~25mb RAR file. Bob, I thought I'd check with you before just uploading the file ... ?

Anyway, here's some sample pix. They're all 1080x720, and include many, many MANY different pumps, valves, motors, gages, etc.

Turns out that taking the pictures may have been a mix of both good and bad: now my boss wants me to make a CGI version of the plant. It's good, because he's willing to pay me, even if its only about a hundred bucks. It's bad ... because he wants it detailed, and this is a 14 acre site.

Feel free to upload it though you might want ti consider breaking it up into two or three parts for those who may be B/W challenged. But from server side, no issues with it at all.

All righty then.

Started to upload them now, but the damned wifi at work is spotty at best - they're running Clearwire to the plant's server until the T1 gets hooked up - and I didn't get more than probably halfway through before it timed out.

I'll shoot 'em up when I get home.

OK - I gave up. I haven't uploaded in awhile and can't seem to find out how and where.

Du'oh.

I need another beer.

Go to Downloads/meshes page and there is a little grey box that says "Submit"
I'm sending anything I make to Elowan. To save on post after post of Greebles.

Here are images of a couple of greeble things:
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...edge/FanSM.jpg
http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/g...ndedGearSM.jpg

Do I upload something else somewhere? Like the actual models?

Or... do I wait for the images to be inspected first?

Reference library! Here it -is-!

143 pictures of detail-y goodness.

The files are done via spanning, so all 6 files are required in order to use them.

Ohhhhhhhhh yeah, by the way, please excuse the condition of some of the stuff ... it's been abandoned for almost 15 years, and we're only about 90% done with refurbishing it. Sadly, the last 10% is the cosmetics, mostly ...

Unfortunately I will not be able to upload my greeble as my package is not in the list and the form for uploading won't let me upload it without putting in a package - as it is, I'd have to pick a package I didn't use...

That's odd... we thought we made it for all eventualities and going on your listed applications under your name there, it would appear that all the applications are on the list - what did you actually create them in, and we'll see if we can add it in there?

Let me know what the app is and I can adjust the list in the download section.
