Thanks .

I have been working out possible scales, partly for fun and partly I am a glutton for punishment.

So using the London as my starting point I created a plan to explain how things could (possibly) look, by no means definitive, so I have the London around 157'11." ft long or 48.m.

from there I hope to gauge the scale of the Liberator,

That's precision; and maybe punishment, but in the end it will be worth it!

I have been talking to some people about this, and there is quite a debate (normal) and that this is not the original model, Its a quagmire of a story, but the short short version is.

Mat Irvine said he has it,
Martin Bower said he has it and after some repair sold it (as far as I can workout)

Mat Irvine work on the series for 2 season (the last 2 season 3 and 4) for the BBC
Martin Bower work on it for 4 season but as an outside contractor

from the therpf site

Quote:
According to Mat, on the Comet instruction sheet, there was one big Libby, and then two smaller ones made by Martin.

The Comet kit was released in 1989. Mat loaned them 'the' Liberator as reference

On Martin's site, he claims to have scrounged up 2/3rds of the original model, he also says that Mat only had certain parts of the ship, would not let him have them and claimed that what he had was the original ship. Also, he doesn't have any photos of the ship before he 'restored' it

Martin's Libby 'restoration' was completed in '93 (according to his site). But at the same time, Mat recorded a feature on the Blake's 7 models (which is available on YouTube) and showed off parts of his Libby. He confirms it was disassembled in the making of the Comet kit.

Mat's Libby parts have ALWAYS had the weathering and red/brown paint that was applied to her for filming of the ship's demise in 'Terminal'. And whenever the full ship is seen on display it has that weathering and is visibly rather beaten up, even as recently as 2004 as can be seen here:
Both disagree with each other.

Also Ron Thornton who also worked on the series has entered the debate and said
It's not the original!

so I am going with that.. so please if you have the cash ,,,,, ha ha don't spend yet.

personally I think Mat Irvine has the real one,, which he brings to conventions in the UK and has all the hall marks of a design been through the mill

I respect both artists but,, there is always a but

I am still working on the London Prison ship from the TV series Blake's 7 BBC and I have found myself having to rework the design after getting some new images, while its not 100% accurate, its as close as I can without having decent plans/blueprints.

This is where the design stands now and as with my other designs it also focused on scale, how big is it, look back over my previous post on this design, this will enable me to within reason suggest a possible scale for the Liberator DSV2.

Yet here is the design as it now stands on landing gear

The London looks like it back to the length of 54 meters, 1 meter shorter than some unofficial scales I have seen.

I remember I had this ship as a toy as a kid and the antennas at the front were all bent, but loved it

Great to see someone having a crack at it

Thank for the continued encouragement.

Nice work tension69, the Liberator is like the Enterprise, it looks easy until you get down to building it, for me, the trickiest area was the engine.

This is bringing back some happy childhood memories

The Liberator is one of my all time favourite Scifi ships, I love the 'alienness' of the design. Your model looks amazing, you've done justice to it.

The Liberator is one of those designs I've always wanted to have a go at myself but I wouldn't have a clue where to start with that engine, I suspect that shape is not as easy as it may look

Thanks, it as its tricky areas, mainly the engine at least for me.
