I really love this design for some reason

were you inspired from a similar design?

If i could have one ship to command myself of the trek universe...i think i like this one the best

any possibility of a next gen version of this some day? :P

great job!

any possibilty for blueprints of this baby?

Nice shapes. As a max user, I'm curious what methods you are using to build the geometry on this.

There is a chance of it since I am considering submitting this to premier content or do to submit it in the resources.

Update:
Added the marker lights, nacelle registries, and the gunk in the torp cutout. Worked a few other parts as well. I think all that is left is a proper lighting rig IE all the little lights etc and self lighting outside of the saucer.

Hopefully I will get a mess of these old designs out and done soon.

Oh and a quick render test of it with my generic BG. (yes lighting is off)

Ok, I couldn't come up with anything more creative than this for self lighting.

Other than maybe adding a little light spilling from the squared windows (in the middle pic) near the back end of the ship I like it.

What is funny is I have light emitting mats in that room. You can only see the light spilling out when you zoom into that area. Probably due to the nature of the tools.

Well then all is right in the world.
Nice job on another one MKF! Great to see more of your designs getting to the finished stage.

Ok I am starting off with the USS Balmung She is in need of a new strut object the old one was all well it was gross. Ill let the renders speak for themselves. I guess it was too much staring at the studio model and its over rounded plywood struts. I admit the changes are subtle but hopefully it'll improve over all scale. I have some other small things I want to fix as well and Im considering re rigging the entire mess that is the ships lighting. There are some other fine details that are just gross and need new objects and a few items that are still subdiv and well all melty looking.

This model will most likely stay in simple max scanline.

Man, once you get started on something you really take off. Looking forward to seeing them improved though I think that's a tall order.

Lots of optimizations to do. Upper decks are done except some silly edges used to control the mesh on windows before I learned about hidden edges. Im not sure if any of these edges will affect anything though (performance polycount etc)

Ok she is all done got her down to 312k. Rescaled to about 1361 feet. All I need to do is re-rig the lighting since it wouldn't scale with the ship.

wireframe that's too big for attachments:

Ugh I hate rigging lights BLEAH slow slow slow process especially since max will only address so many lights in the view ports. So lots of rendering and fiddling around and more rendering.

Another mesh, this one resided in the Balmung so it is from that era. I lost all the pennant decals so I will have to redo those. She will remian fairly low poly but will be donated for download.
I dunno how much of this original mesh will remain. All major details and structure will remain.
Im having to scale this bugger up Im not sure about the overall size. I would assume these things are tall enough for a person to stand in. SO it measures currently
L: 33'8"
W: 21'5"
H: 11'4"
Need to check the TMP shuttles seen in st5

The Balmung is basically finished. I just have to decide on if I want to try to replicate my windows and cut a second set into the rim. And then clean it up and package for upload. I should have to dock ready to go by the end of the week Im going to do more to it that originally planned :crazy

Dang, you're quick. Looks A'Ok to me. Nice effort on your part knocking down the poly count.

Ok, here is where she is now. Just redid the whole thing heh. Too many on edge extrusions left me with only a few solutions, all of which would have been bodge jobs. Nacelles are temps. I think I sorta went a bit too far with the rounding on some things. Dunno. I scaled it down some from the initial size since relocating the struts and other things resulted in a pretty tall shuttle. "vaulted ceilings" OTL

Uh ok, Im getting carried away here. DOUH!
Im ditching scanline now so slow and annoying. Everything should still work right just the loss of the self illuminating materials.
I cannot decide if I want to cut the side windows, since the TMP shuttles only had a forward screen. Maybe I will cut the windows since the TNG version had them. HRMM

Yes. Your mesh "Laevatien" reminds me of this old design. I see now that you are redoing all three. Looks good.
