lol Maybe this is a bit to drastic. I need to tighten down the spec through Anisotropic, it is way to wide ATM. Old hull mat can be seen on the saucer rim of image 1, technically the same as the re-connie (light blue base if you can believe that)
While I'm at it I think all the RCS need to be yanked off as well. They just don't flow as precursors. Hopefully that wont be too much of a nightmare rebuilding the rim.

Here is where it sits ATM I wasn't to sure about that DARK hull. Still missing that metallic look. but it is a fair shade different than the re-connie and adds a bit of scale, least i hope it does lol.

Sorry to all of those who were expecting something exciting for the RCS, I sorta balked out of it. I had this arrayed nozzle thing but it just looked crap. And well just didn't work on the hull like similar ones on the NX-01. So this is what you get some marked up like a ambassador mixed with my re-connie. HA
Think this works for the best in the log run. Just need some real materials on the emitter areas and reattach and UV the whole mess. Still some small things to model on them but it is fairly done there.

I love where the nacelle arms come out from the hull. Good job.

Rough in of new impulse housing and neck. Attempting to keep that slung down secondary vs a long neck and extension of the impulse across the secondary. There is a possibility that I will be relocating the struts to a housing attached to the secondary to clean up that area of the ship. It is all up in the air right now though. I would like to retain the vertical impulse arrangement but I decided I would give the flared housing a go first.

I like the slimmer, vertical arrangement better. The other try outs make it look too bulky.

Another Impulse housing. I think this trekXI grill facing lends a more TOS feel oddly. It sucks, in that I am having to use post glows to brighten it to my liking but it looks all nice and hot, need to add the little details now since this is technically a rough in of the shape.

What are the opinions on the exposed coils? I have been looking at the things and thinking of removing them for something else. They have been tweaked to have more faces and chamfers so they arnt so ugly in close up.

The exposed coils look nice, but it makes the nacelle look very fragile.

I think I'm done mucking about with the impulse area and neck. Time to take a look at those warp coils and bodge something up for the nacelle end caps.

I really like the impulse grill effect. It reminds me of the in-wall heater grilles that were in my gramma's house when I was growing up in the 60's... which if you think about it is a perfect design influence for a TOS-era spacecraft!

If you're worried about the exposed warp coils, maybe you could put them under some sort of grillework that's still got enough holes or slats in it so that you can still see the waterworks--er, the warpworks.

I was reminded of those flat faced ceramic heaters that are so vouge ATM. but I know what your referring too.

I dunno. . . . maybe it is just to reboot. . . but what I will keep is the girth. I might increase the DIA of the nacelle even more.

This looks even better.
If you'd put those glowy bits on the nacelle's undersides, they would reflect the reboot Enterprise even more...

If you mean those blue slits, I was considering some sort of plasma vent down there.
The coils I have showing I got a gap to show that there are 2 stages of coils for the faster factors. Im not aiming for the JJ style totally I just liked the Kelvin's nacelle profile and that of a few other fan TOS designs over the years with the bulging nacelle form.
The old nacelle went cause it had all these awkward parts on it, and some badly modeled stuff to boot.

Not much of a update but it is late, tomorrow more nacelle and possibly a redo of the bridge. well the dome part. It is TOS, but dunno.
Oh yeah sorta ignore the end, that isnt what I plan to do, I want to do something similar to the re-connie but less swoopy, probably more inline with the nacelle itself.

Decided to squirt out a Mental Ray render to see how the light emitting mats look when properly emitting photons.
AHHHH so much nicer. Only thing is shadows are ugly and no AO cause it is scanline materials. Oh and I seem to have a bussard out, gotta get that replaced next time she is in dock.

That's the StarFleet Budgeting Committee cutting expenses again!

Actually, both of them look lit up, just in different colours.

Definitely prefer the endcaps to the glowy ends on the warp nacelles.
