Exactly how did you create the grid and either stencil it in or texture it on?

the grid is a texture? It looks like it's throwing shadows.... A bump map? I'm super rusty, but I'm trying to figure this out....

It's polygons. I cut into the hull, chamfered and them extruded.

Looks good to me. Almost makes my want to start a trek model... almost.

UPDATE...
Starting work on the lower saucer windows. I wasn't going to include portholes here but I tried it and thought it didn't look too bad so I kept it.
I'm still thinking if I'll keep the back walls of the large cut outs the way they are now or make them more angeled.

Not so much an update but another ship design.
While working on a ship for another person I was playing around with the saucer and came up with another idea for a ship.
The first two pics include the ship I was working on. You should be able to guess the one.
Right now it only roughed in I'll add all the parts to make it fit with my alt-Trek concepts. The warp engines will probably be moved.

Those nacelles remind me a bit of the ship I'm currently working on. With the warp inset in the side and the boxy warp coils or whatever they call them.

Some very interesting designs. Makes me want to try an original design when I get done with the Intrepid.

UPDATE...
Started to add windows to the lower saucer.
The next two pics are my version of the Ptolemy transport/tug.
After that I started on something for the Feds to shoot at.
A Tholian ship.

I was just taking a look at this again and realized the second ship in the first and second pictures, the hull on it looks like the Millennium Falcon, just fliped around backwards with some nacelles slapped onto it.

Yeah. It's not my design I'm doing it for someone else. That's the look he wanted.

UPDATE...
I finished the windows on the saucer rim.
I added a few details to the Kelvin part of the ship and built a few cargo containers to go into the cargo bay.

Post 68 looks a bit Romulan (TOS) to me.
Maybe put a bird of prey on it?

UPDATE...
Start out with a shot of the cargo bay interior and a shot of the shuttle bay interior. that's all I'm gonna do withthese for now I don't think they need a lot of detail.
I also started to work on the textures for the upper saucer. I can see that I need to fix the coffee stain.
The last shot is of the finished windows of the bottom of the saucer.

The shuttle/cargo bays look fine. As you said, they won't need a lot of detail. If anyone does an animation inside either bay, they would be further ahead to build a separate set with all of the detail.

I also like the top view of the saucer; nice work on the impulse engines.

Thank you Rigel. the Impulse engines are one of my favorite parts for some reason.
UPDATE...
A few more textures for the upper saucer. I'm happy with them for now I might tweek a bit here or there.
There are also a few examples of what I want to do with the name of the ship. I'm not sure about the one I like more.

Fozz, you´re very creative my friend!
The unique thing I dislike in your new ship, is the sensor. Why not to place it in the front of the saucer, like the NX-01?
About the placement of Saladin´s name, I belive this one is the better: http://www.foundation3d.com/forums/a...9&d=1237498571

Since is based on the Frans Joseph design I feel that my new placement keeps the change still close to the original. Plus I don't care for the deflector in the saucer. It works for the NX-01 but I still don't like it.

Very clean modeling... Love the design... Always wanted to see the saucer section separated and sitting on a planet somewhere. I see you have the stairway ramps modeled on the underside of the hull, but not the landing strut doors... Of course I am remembering from my childhood of some prints I saw of the TOS Enterprise, and the doors were present in the TMP ship... I am rambling, so I will take my medication and sit back and watch your great work!

UPDATE...
I got some more work done on the textures. I added some the green from the neck to the impulse crystal area. And I think I've finally got the look of the NCC number down.

UPDATE...
I've got the finished interiors for the cargo and shuttle bays.
I've got the final look and size of the NCC number and I added a few extra splatches to the hull.
And just for the fun of it I started to block in the new Bonaventure.

UPDATE...
More textures.
I've been working on the textures the lower saucer. They're mostly done. I have to replace the ones on the deflector housing because they just don't appear to match very well.
