Initial work on the Boost Protective Cover. This is really a PITA to do, I'm having to resort to references of paper models! If anyone has any good ref pictures please let me know. I think this is close, but I'm basing this off of the paper model refs. I'm not sure how accurate those are,

BPC is pretty much complete. The exact dimensions on some of the bits aren't 100%, but I may leave it as is for now. Have to adjust the LES tower to fit, as the tubing was off a bit, once that's done I'll call the BPC complete (for now).

Man, this is just so great and so inspiring. I would love to do an animation of this. I've been wanting to do a Saturn V launch animation for years. I did an animation test a few years ago, but never got around to doing it because there weren't any good LUT or Saturn V models available.

Thanks guys, glad you're enjoying it!
OK this is it for the BPC/LES. Took a bit for fiddling to get the LES support structure in place after I redid the BPC. At this point I belive all the core Saturn V/Apollo modeling is complete! There's more internal detailing I can do, but the base of it is done. Need to create the Houdini asset to hold all this and set up materials for it.
The LUT still needs work - I'm guessing it's about 60% complete at this point. And I need to do some part of the LC39A ground structures.

Yep, since I want to animate the launch, I need the pad, and ideally I'd like to have some wide shots shortly after it clears the pad, maybe once it gets 500-1000 meters up, which will mean the launch complex too.

Some work done on the LC 39A pad. Incorporated the latest LUT in there, but the Saturn V is just the proxy.

Got some work done on the LUT. Haven't done much modeling recently, busy with other stuff, but have made a rig in Houdini and set up all the initial materials with the geometry.

Awesome! Great sense of scale in those shots!

What's the current polygon count?

Thanks guys! Nick, Polycount is high, approaching 2 mil but that included geometry for each of the floors above the 80' mark - those could all be duplicated till the 360' mark.

Bob, glad to see you back. I was glad to hear things are looking for you.

On a totally different note, I saw looking around that the SM SPS engine could actually gimbal! I didn't know that it had the actuators to do that.

I didn't know that, but it makes sense. After looking around, I was surprised to find that a different variant of the same AJ10 was used in the OMS on the space shuttle, and those AJ10s had gimbals as well. Apparently the OMS AJ10s will be repurposed for the Orion service module.

It's the rocket engines that get me, all those tightly packed pipes, and difficult enough to even work out what you are trying to model.

Hello old friend!
I realized that the LM was unavoidable, so got some initial work done on it.

Want to say that this guys page:

http://spacemodels.nuxit.net/LEM-24/

was *invaluable* to getting this done.
