Default Star Trek - Rendezvous at Saturn

Hello all, I'm afraid I've become a lurker of late, but I do still regularly stop by. One of my New Year's resolutions was to render at least one image per month (something I sadly haven't managed for the last couple years, and after forming the resolution I promptly missed one for January). With that in mind; however, I opened Lightwave over the weekend - the first time in months - and began messing around in it.

I have always liked the look of the physical Enterprise E model as seen in First Contact, so I decided to try and recreate that feel. I haven't finished the image yet, but I decided to add some film gain and get an idea of how everything is coming together so far. I'm not quite satisfied with the compositional balance of the image, but it's a start. I plan to add at least one more starship, and maybe some shuttles, into the mix.

I'd say you definitely did get the 'physical model lighting' on the right track. Looking forward on where you're going to take this...

Thanks, I'm not quite happy with the lighting yet, but it's a start. I'm in my junior year of college, and just as I began to get back into Lightwave and work on this, I've found myself inundated with other pressing schoolwork.

That said, here's where I'm at now; no major changes, I've just tightened up the framing a bit and added a runabout and moon. I experimented with adding other ships, but it just made the image feel cluttered.

I didn't like how desaturated the Enterprise was, so I pushed up its saturation levels. It looks okay on my monitor but I'm undecided if I like the extra colour or not. I'm still after that "physical" object look.

So, I'm not finished with it yet, but I'm not sure where or when I can go from here.

Sam

Lighting is a bit inconsistent - top side of the rings lit, lower side of the starship.
