And three rather stylised renders, done as silhouettes against a bright gradient sky.

Thanks Bill!

I've just sent some off to the guys at Jodrell Bank, so I'm hoping they like the results too - they know the real thing pretty well, so are a lot more likely to spot any mistakes, or missing bits!

Hopefully it won't be a response of;
"Nice model, but it needs more bolts" or "I can't see any of the weld joins?"

The complexity of this model is dizzying! I should say you are a master at 3D modeling and rendering!

Default Am I chuffed or what?!?!

Can I blow my own trumpet for a moment? Why thank you!

Just got an email back from the guy who works at Jodrell Bank who supported me with the plans etc, They really like the renders a lot, and are going to see if there's a place for some large prints of any of them in the newly revamped visitor centre!

Now there's a nice end to a **** day in the office!

You know what though? People who don't know CGI seem to REALLY like Vue images!

Maybe it's pretty colours in the sky or something, but I'd even include some professional conventional artists in that.

I mean, I like the skies (when done right, even some of the canned ones are awful), and it's great to be able to have billion polygon vegetation, but as soon as I start to look closely at the lighting on the details it goes 'flat'.

In my book that prog is in equal part pure genius and pure cack.

Which is why I so often only use it to make high res background maps and matching low res HDR files, to render in lightwave.

Well, not much to report - though I was reminded by a friend that the JB people never got back to me on using the pictures, and they seemed really keen. I'll have to get in touch with them this weekend, and see what they are up to.

It also occured to me recently that this object might work really well with a line / diagram style render. Maybe a few very high res ortho line renders would wake them up!
