Default Star Trek - The Presidential Tour - Earth

“You’re watching FNN’s live coverage of the Presidential Tour. We go live now to our Earth correspondent Gale Blackwood on Starbase One, where the presidential flagship just departed. Gale, can you describe the scene for us?”

“Thanks Larian. Yes indeed, the atmosphere here can only be described as electric. Thousands of citizens from Earth and local star systems have crowded Starbase One’s presidium deck hoping to get a glimpse of President zh’Tharris’ departure about the U.S.S. Archangel. The Archangel, referred to as ‘Starfleet One’ for the duration of the presidents voyage, pushed back from the docking structure a few minutes and should be emerging from the space doors any moment now.”

“That’s great, Gale. Have you been able to gauge how people there feel about President zh’Tharris’ landslide win? Being the first Andorian president since Andoria rejoined the Federation?”

“Absolutely! Of course, most of those present are huge supporters of the President and her mandate of economic redistribution across all member worlds. Instability has been widespread since the 2381 invasions, with many worlds never fully recovering from the destruction wrought by the Borg fleets. Though President zh’Tharris’ promise to move focus away from the core systems of the Federation to the outlying systems has been met with concern in the council, it’s been a real PR boon with Federation citizens.”

“That’s right, the council has attempted a number of times to block President zh’Tharris’ proposed economic reforms. Do you think that –“

“Wait, sorry Larian, I think… yes, there she is. Starfleet One is moving away from the upper dome now, just coming into view from our position here on the presidium. The crowd… sorry Larian are you still with me?”

“Yes Gale, we’re receiving – we can only just hear you over the –”

“Sorry Larian I can’t hear you but I’m going to assume we’re still live. The crowds here have erupted into rapturous applause, clearly Alara zh’Tharris’ nickname of ‘The Peoples President’ is well deserved. I haven’t seen such enthusiastic recognition of the presidency beyond our archival footage of President Nanietta Baco’s tour, over sixty years ago. Wow, what a sight.”

“Great Gale, that’s great to hear. Can you tell us a little about the planned destinations along the tour?”

“Well Larian, not all the destinations have been announced yet – Vulcan and Andoria are practically a given. But from what we know of President zh’Tharris’ rather spontaneous nature I’m sure we can expect some unscheduled stops along the way, undoubtedly to Starfleet’s staunch opposition.”

“Opposition? Can you elaborate on that for us a little Gale?”

“Well Larian security arrangements for a Presidential tour on this scale can take months of preparation. The President is only travelling aboard a Starfleet vessel as a compromise due to her unwillingness to allow Starfleet vessels to escort Federation One, a purely civilian vessel.”

“I see, well thank you Gale. We look forwarding to checking in with you again when President zh’Tharris arrives in the 40 Eridani system in a few days’ time on the Vulcan leg of her tour. Until then, stay with us here on FNN. Up next we have political experts from four Federation worlds who’ll be sharing their insight on what to expect from both the tour, and the next four years under President zh’Tharris.”

Yes, I know a lot of people don't like the Chariot Class - perhaps that's why I'm so drawn to her. So sorry in advance.

This is more about my attempt to create a decent looking high resolution Earth model. Pretty pleased with how she turned out, and have been inspired to do a little series that will (hopefully) focus more upon the planets. Also a move to 2560px as a standard resolution, to suit my work monitor.

Also attached here is the background on it's own - as I posted some time back I had discovered a 'certain Facebook game' ripping off my images and using them in adverts, rendering over the ships. I've since decided 'whatever', and will just go back to posting the high resolution backgrounds separately free for anyone to use. I'd like a credit for the background where used, but I've seen how that goes...

(Aggravated? Me? Never... :P)

Beautiful. Always loved that design! Nice job on the background, too.

Thanks! It's funny, a lot of people aren't fans of the Chariot, but I've always found her a refreshing departure from traditional fed ships, whilst still sticking with the conventions.

It's an elegant design, different, sure, but by far not as unusual as some of the designs I've noted over the years, and definitely not more of the same. It definitely befits the vessel of a high ranking official, or a diplomat. Always reminds me of the Destiny Ascension of the Mass Effect games. The only one thing I would change is a smaller (or flatter) bridge dome, but it's hard to judge, because usually the ship is shown form this angle, so it's hard to tell.

A lot of that is personal taste though. Overall, the design is very nice.

Lovely renders. But that is a butt ugly ship.

Just a matter of personal taste.

Overseer - good points, I may try for some different angles in a future render. All scenes I've done with this ship have been from a fore or aft lower perspective.

Rigel - Hah! Yup, to some she's horrendous but to me she's a beaut. Definitely one of the more divisive fan designs!

I have to admit, I'm not of a big fan of the ship but I love the render. Can I use the render of Earth for a background?

I would prefer not to critisize the design of the ship. I would have expected a small high speed shuttle.

Lonewriter - Of course, feel free. I hope to make some more using this Earth model too, if time allows.

Ronald - I did actually consider that, if I revisit this one at some stage I may be inclined to add that in. I tend to swing between 'busier' images, with more ships and activity, and quieter scenes such as this. Probably depends more on my mood / state of mind at the time. :P

It's a fine balance of whether less can be more, or whether something else is needed. I guess it depends on the overall depth of an image. The more depth, the more items make sense.
