Default Optimising UV maps, cheap solution?

Hi All,
I've started trying to make my own Daz stuff, via Lightwave. So far it's not too bad, but I'm not happy with the UV maps I am getting out. They work just fine, but there's a LOT of wasted space in the image - I'd say most of it.

(See attached for an example)

I'm using Atlas UV's at the moment, to ensure nothing overlaps. Lightwave 11.6

I suspect there are other aspects that are less than optimal too.

Is there a simple way to improve this? I don't have the time to learn a complex tool, but if there's something simple, (including moderately priced tools), I'd be willing to buy them.

Nick

I'd do them in modo then. Modo has much better UV tools than LW does. Myself. I gave up on keeping all the different programs that I use straight so I went straight external and got UVLayout.

Take a look.. there is a functional try before you buy.
