Maybe because the file type is jpeg not jpg?

So I got the UHD Blu-Ray of Serenity last week--not hugely different, you might not notice anything different unless you have two TV's to compare side by side, probably to be expected since the master is 2K resolution so it's only about 600 pixels wider than the Blu-Ray. The audio has DTS:X support which should be better than what was done before, but I don't have support for it on my receiver so I don't know if it's any better.

Still, I guess as a Serenity/Firefly fan it's nice to have the best quality version of the film, technically better quality than what was shown in theaters.

DTS:X you say? Guess I'll have to buy the White Album again.

Yes, but again, the movie is actually 2K, when a movie is converted to a digital format for editing/coloring/FX they have to choose a resolution to scan it in to, and rarely do they do something like 4K, so the master of Serenity is 2K resolution and can't ever be higher than that unless they rescan the original film and redo all of the editing and FX stuff (like what they had to do with the Blu-Ray release of Star Trek The Next Generation)

As far as getting screenshots from it, it's going to take time before people are going to be able to take screenshots off UHD Blu-Ray discs, due to the copy protection, there is some hardware out there but the software for unlocking them needs to update.

Wouldn't mind a copy of Serenity, but its really expensive on Amazon just now... £31.59 to be exact!

Picked up a copy of Wonder Woman last week, which brings the collection up to 31 movies. Should get Baby Driver, Spiderman: Homecoming and War of the Planet of the Apes next month, and Terminator 2 in December. Will need to persuade the other half to get me the Harry Potter boxset for Christmas, and I'll be a happy chappie! 😃

hmm, mus look into wether Serenity is worth it. I have. DTS:X on my system. If it’s HDR that’ll make a big difference over HD too

I didn't notice anything in particular with HDR, but I generally don't notice anything with HDR anyway. I'm not entirely sure my TV supports HDR properly, it is supposed to but the feature was enabled in a firmware update so I suspect that it's not as good as other TV's.

Ah, I can definitly see the difference in titles with good HDR. Things like Oblivion, are just superb. Where you have bright lighting in a frame with dark areas, the difference is astounding. Additionally, the colours are just plain better. To be honest, it’s what I appreciate more about the 4K content, than the additional detail. Some of Netflix conten is just HD, but with HDR, and it looks amazing.

Fully agree about Oblivion. Logan (especially the Noir edition) is probably a better example of the difference between HDR and non-HDR. Even after seeing Guardians 2, I still believe T2 Trainspotting has the best HDR I've ever seen.

Star Trek: Discovery looks equally good in HDR. I hope to have Sky Fibre broadband in my area by the time The Punisher is released, so can enjoy this in glorious 4K/HDR...

Yes, looking forward to Punisher.

Remember you need to update to the pricier Netflix package to get 4K.

Popped Serenity in to have a look. Wow! It looks fantastic. And the DTS: X is simply stunning. Looking forward to sitting down over the weekend and watching it.

Got the Netflix package upgraded shortly after getting the new TV back at the end of last year.

Picked up the 4K copy of the original Blade Runner, and planning on rewatching it prior to seeing the new one after my four hour overtime shift tomorrow.

Christopher Nolan films are coming to UHD Blu-Ray next month--Dark Knight Trilogy/Interstellar/Dunkirk
No word on Inception but is probably coming at the same time, and they're all being mastered in 4K
The Harry Potter films came out in 4K yesterday, but I'll have to wait a bit to get those, it's expensive.

Yeah, I'm sure Interstellar will be awesome, but will probably be more interested in The Dark Knight trilogy and maybe Dunkirk.

I should be getting my copy of Baby Driver on Monday from Amazon. I wouldn't mind Harry Potter, but will be broke until the end of the month. Getting my other half Skyrim VR for her birthday...

Just a brief update... Got the Harry Potter boxset and Terminator II yesterday, which brings the collection up to 44 movies! Atomic Blonde should arrive tomorrow, with another couple due before the end of the year.

A little annoyed the Harry Potter set doesn't include the standard Blu-ray editions, as every other title I own does. Still, looking forward to my days off so I can participate in some magical binge-watching!

What's interesting about Harry Potter is that the first two movies were mastered in 4K (2K for the FX) while the rest of the series was mastered in 2K.
I had my brother test out some stuff on his TV--with mine I was getting banding in the sky of Mars with The Martian and I wanted to know if that was normal, but his TV didn't have the issue. I think I'll have to upgrade at some point then. I'd like a 3D TV still though but all of the TV's this year don't have 3D anymore so I'd have to get a 2016 TV if I were to upgrade.

Pretty much everything these days is still mastered at 2K. With 4K being a home video thing now, I'm surprised more studios aren't mastering at 4K.

I think the banding is very much a TV issue, as my Samsung doesn't suffer from it.

In my opinion, the HDR has a bigger impact in visual experience over the increased resolution. Watched Atomic Blonde and the neon lighting was absolutely stunning. Dunkirk is arriving before Christmas and Logan Lucky before the new year.

I'm thinking about the first season of Westworld, as spotted it the other day in HMV...

I'm surprised that some of the big directors who are really into tech haven't pushed for 4K or better on their movies. Like James Cameron or Ridley Scott, even George Lucas was OK with 1080p resolution for the prequels which is crazy.

I'm planning on watching Terminator II tonight, so will let you guys know what Cameron's masterpiece looks like in 4K/HDR!

I'd actually be curious to see your thoughts on Westworld. I had seen it originally in online/broadcast SDR, and was surprised at how much darker the HDR version was. At no point do you have any difficulty seeing anything, though, which is the main draw of HDR (and bright whites, while few and far between, are still bright white). It's just much moodier lighting overall.

Excellent range on the soundrack, too. Everything's right where it needs to be, and the gunshots are suitably loud, which so many movies and shows still get wrong.

That's one thing with Firefly if they want to do a remastered version I'd like them to redo the audio, especially in the pilot episode the sound design is very poor, the guns all sound weak.
