I love this shot... you have got to tell me how you did the lighting on the nacelles and the deflector dish. That is something straight out of the early days of TNG for sure. Beautiful and it takes me back to my younger days of being a TNG fan. Great job on it.

Default The Most Beautifull Mesh

I have not seen a mesh of the Enterprise D that even comes close to this one. Please share the love and let us play too. We will play nice with it, I promise.

Very nice lighting effects, especially the engine and scanner components

deg you need to make a galaxy class. You do great TOS ships, I'd bet you'd do a great TNG Enterprise (then you can release it)

I'm suprised there isn't a good quality one in the wild because of the popularity of the ship and show. It's a gorgeous design.

I'm using Scotch 'n' Scotty's Galaxy mesh. It's originally for Bridge Commander and a set of lum maps has to be constructed for the windows but it's a fine mesh and better than the old ScifiArt Galaxy mesh.

BTW, it can be imported to Max eith a free plugin, so it's kinda easy to convert...

A very good point. With all the hobby modelers out there and trek as it is, I thought there would be hundreds of decent galaxy-classes around. So much for my assumption eh?

Who's up for doing one that'll be released?

I think you don't see it out there much because of the difficulty of the shape, most guys will just do an original series 1701 and give up at anything harder - that's why you see about 6 million of them on the forums - but as you get to TNG the shapes become more complex, there are many people out there with the skill to do one, just most of them aren't interested in trek

That may be true, it just seems odd that a flagship show like TNG wouldn't result in a lot of TNG meshes. As you say there's a lot of complexity to a galaxy class ship - I'm suprised more don't want to try it as a challenge. I'm tempted myself but I don't think I'm up to the task frankly. I've been playing with making a galaxy nacelle tonight though...

Very nice, though I have a couple of suggestions...

If trying to give an impression of deep dark space, and/or a long exposure I like to include a starfield that is rich with faint stars, to kind of imply a lack of bright light and dark adaptation, (though maybe its just the amatuer astronomer in me that makes this work!)

Why is the leading edge of the saucer soft? Personally I dislike motion blur in still images, and I really hope it's not depth of field at that distance from the subject.

Nick

the lighting and surfacing is simply awesome. the glow in the windows is a bit much but it doesnt distract from the image too much. and some stars in the background would have given it a little depth but its still a fantastic image
