Default SciFi - Basestar

Hi All

Well just before LWG shut it's doors i uploaded my Basestar mesh however some users had some problems with it revolving around a darksim shader i had used so now that the new site is up and running i've been away and fixed the problems.
So down to the mesh stats.
Modeling
Lightwave 9 with a Poly count of 381,018 and around 16 hours
Mapping
UV maps generated in Lightwave, the surface baking camara was used to generate a dirt map with the AmbOcc plugin also it was used to fix the dark sim probem. Some proc textures were also used in tandem with alpha maps to add some more dirt and custom maps were made in Photoshop.
Images
The First image is the ship as it was when LWG closed
The Second the revamped version
Three & Four are variations on a theam

A bit heavy on the grain on pic 4 but the ship itself is great!

I think there is way too much noise, but I'm most curious how you got the filesize og 750kb for the 3rd pic to jump up to 2mb for the 4th B/W grainy one? That seriously needs optimising

Cheers!

I'd suggest bigger noise in that case, more like TV white noise, rather than fine heavy coloured noise.... like poor quality CCTV.

Cheers!

Were you using the Wavefilter noise or a PS plugin?

It was texturiser in Photoshop as for the file size it must be the filter thats bumped up the size.

I managed to grab this before lwg3d died. I even have the darksim stuff going. I may download the none darksim version and try to get a scene going. Thanks for putting it up.

Raffs, so nice to see you here.

Great basestar. I don't suppose you could export it as a LW 8 version could you?? I need a new basestar and this one is lovely.

If not, maybe .obj and I'll just have to texture it myself.

Outstanding Raffs, as always.

I love the detail and the texturing just makes it all come alive, now, hows about a Battlestar to kick some tin can eh?

That is an excellent basestar. I hold the cylon BS in my heart as it's the very, very first model I made in 3D - getting on for 10 years ago now I think.

Cool work. I'd have thrown a tiny bit of sharpening on the ships in image 3 but other than that its ROCKIN!

Raffs;

I was finally able to download your basestar and yes, it loads into Lightwave 8.5 no problem.

Thanks mate the reason for the softness in the image was some slight pixel blur in photo shop to get them to blend in to the background image without it they stuck out like sore thumbs.

When I first saw this thread I was like, "What the heck! That isn't the basestar!" Then I read that it was from the Original Series. Good work!
