There's a "flare" in the brightness of the planet killer fireball right after it swallows the asteroid, but that's about all... and that's kind of the point... ...nothing gets in its way as it inexorably plows through the debris field in its mindless pursuit of the enemy energy source (i.e., the Enterprise)...

Hey Professor,

Over all it looks very good, but I do have to say the Enterprise's maneuvers do not look quite right. Maybe because it does not bank as much as it would if it were an airplane (not that it would need to).

Also, I think the fancy maneuvering does not match with the original music.

My last crit is about the asteroid field. It looks very very good, but they look too smooth and round, as if they are rocks from the bottom of a river. If the asteroids are from one of the planets that got blasted by the Planet Killer, then I would think the pieces would be rough and jagged, as if the rocks had been blown apart by the anti proton beam. Such a beam would probably annihilate the protons in the rock, breaking up or converting the sub-protonic particles to and releasing an incredible amount of pure energy.

Just my point of view. Still, over all, an excellent job!

I think it's fantastic.

I think the Enterprise looks like it is moving more than it really is, due to those camera movements. I think you hit the feeling of trying to follow along with it with a camera perfectly.

I can't wait to watch this entire episode one day.

I think this is really cool - took a quick look and will have to watch the sections that seem to be available at this time. Great memories here, and the old segments look sharper than I've ever seen them

Absolutely. I have a vintage copy of the 1975 Michael McMaster Klingon D7 Battlecruiser blueprints that have been sitting on my shelf collecting dust for years now.

I’ve been a little motivationally-challenged for a few days now, so I’m taking a little break to work on something that’s going to have to be tackled anyway when I get to act III. Here’s an amuse bouche for you.

I haven’t touched the Jefferies or the hangar deck models since I finished them way back in the Summer of 2007, and they still need texture and lighting tweaks (especially the lighting—there are some bad radiosity artifacts right now). This is a raw image with no modifications to the models or the 2007 lighting setup, so consider this a starting point.

Can't wait to see what you do with it 2/3 years later.

Thanks!

Here's another angle on the Jefferies. I solved the radiosity splotchiness problems for the most part; now I'm noodling with saturation, contrast and brightness levels and seeing where I need to add more visual interest to the models, either with tweaked textures and/or additional physical detailing. (And yes, by all rights these hangar images really need to be in the 3D WIP section; I just didn't want to start up a second thread for the same general subject.)

Before I drop dead would be nice.

Soon, I hope... I'm hoping to have Act II finished by mid-Spring but I've learned not to post deadlines--I always miss 'em.

Coolness, Prof.

Just reminds me, my E needs her shuttlecraft(s).

Professor.......ya' give me strength...I am in a holding pattern in doin' an animated Star Trek theme.....just trying to get certain things right and I expected to have around 10 minutes of footage ready for critique here in a month or two........ain't gonna' happen.......but watching what you have done (besides giving me clues as to how certain things should look) gives me the idea that I need to think only in terms of getting it done and not on how long it is taking me to get it done........my thanks.......

Exactly. If it's not fun and you're not happy with the end result, what's the point?!

That's a great shuttle bay (and doomsday machine project), Professor Moriarty

Did you have much difficulty with sizing the bay into the Enterprise model? I'm basically taking alot of artistic license getting everything to fit in mine

I had no difficulty at all, since this is a standalone model that isn't actually in my Enterprise model.

I built my hangar deck model directly from the Matt Jefferies blueprints for the studio miniature built back in 1967, with only a couple of tweaks here and there to remove the forced perspective that was built into the miniature to make the hangar deck look suitably gargantuan.

To be perfectly accurate about it, this is a model of a model, not a model of what would rationally fit into the hienie of a 947-foot-long Enterprise. In other words, I followed in the footsteps of famous iconoclasts like the gallant James T. Kirk--rebels who have thumbed their noses at authority throughout the storied history of Star Trek. I cheated.

Loving the reflective quality of the globes on the ends of the shuttle in that last pic.

LOL... that's actually one of the parts I hate! I want to change those particular components to look more like the matte aluminum spheroids that were on the AMT full scale set piece.
