Torp launchers finally Inspired by Roliba with the cross hair red glows. I made the holes a bit large for them lol so Ill pack it with sensors or be a nutter and do 4 forward launch tubes
Scaled the outer frames at about 11X8 ft with comparing them to the dock ring of the refit.
Probably way more detail than really needed on them as well >_<. Ignore the odd line on the saucer rim that is because it is detached there oh and the funny notches in the middle forgot to fix those. Segmenting of the saucer is apparent here DOUH heh easily too much detail on the stupid torps, oh well.

That really looks nice. I like the purple inboard chillers, I am curious how you got them to go from blue to purple in the third image, that's a sweet effect.

Its just a self illumination material with a gradient. It emits light so it'll cause that fall off look while reflecting off the vanes etc. Gradient is linear going from pink to purple/blue to pink again.

Redid the shield grids, my most hated part of trek ships and this is the 4th time top and bottom!! augh. and added some simple ones to the shuttle bulge.

Because the things are tedious. Select patterns cut designs set tiles inset by groups then lots of edge removal for optimization, inserting edges for control after optimizations etc extrude bevel inset verify it dun look like dookie and do it all over if not lol. This one for some reason was giving me a lot of grief.

>>update:
A bunch of small things.

understand. For me they were a PITA until I got Vertibevel for LW and then it was pretty much a breeze. The only thing that still gets me is cleaning up stray points after stencling, not sure if other apps have this problem but LW's booleans really leave a lot of clean up to do. The only way to reduce it is to load up on poly count which produces a cleaner, smoother stencil but results in a lot of work doing poly reduction afterwards.

Well Im basically looping edges between the geometry then insetting them vs stencils. Others are getting freehand cuts. So it is part of the method I have edges between panels that need removal. Long run it is faster than troubleshooting doubled verts or cleaning up loose verts from booleans. Ill post a sample later on when I have to do more later on.
I guess it could be related to washing dishes or mowing the lawn, it gets something done but is a evil that is part of the process.
Reality of it all, is I could just leave those edges there but Ill know they are there and my anal retentive self would be driven nuts over them. :crazy even if it is just a few hundred edges on a 1million poly ship. (this one I hope to get to 200k or under. roughly 150k ATM)

Not being a true-blue Trek fan (I like it, but haven't seen half of ST:TNG), I can honestly say that's EASILY the coolest Federation ship I've ever seen!

Nearing the end for this one, just need some random greebles and the usual detail bits then maps.

I got to say this one had me fooled. The beginning stages did not grab me at all unlike some of your other designs. Now that has changed.
I like the ships sharp edges.

Well, it is basically a flying pancake.

Oh something I forgot to ask is what people think about that back area retaining the dark hull or getting saucer colour like seen in the last two images?

For now I returned what I guess could be called the secondary hull to its odd blue green material. (easily reselected by mat id to change later this way)
Since I'm calling it a night here are some greebles in those holes and me messing with the shuttle bay geometry. (I haven't touched the self ilum mat settings this is just changes in angles.)

Tossing in some full ship renders too for a overview of everything. Gonna have to make a new up-to date aztec for this one. need to mull over some refs to get the proper pattern. Oh and the blue cast on the ship will get corrected it is part of the material I am using. I will aim towards the latter eras tendencies to grays on the smaller ships.

Ships name: I used a non accented version, I have seen multiple spellings of this as well. this one so far seems the most common. As for the registry I haven't found anything that is "widespread" for it I would have preferred a 1800 reg but that had too many canon and game related registries used up or fan ships etc.

I really don't have any crits or comments about the design. It seems to fit together well and looks like it all belongs. While there are more than a few what look to me like deviations from typical star fleet design I personally don't find that objectionanable. It's sort of refreshing to see new concepts worked into a standard trek configuration.

Rough aztec, this is just the blocked in stuff I have to do all the individual panels and all that headache. I did this to verify quickly that it all aligns up without patterns overlapping grids etc. Now that its solid its the long timely process of adding the individual panels. BLEAH ;p
Used some old patterns earlier and man these arch design things are hard to get the spec and pearl settings

You mention this and it is something I was having some what an issue with. I have done so many TMG era ships it was really hard to avoid those design queues. Not to mention the TMP era was back when greebles were random odd shapes all over from misc military model kits >_>. So I was there running out of reasons what did what where and why it looked the way it did.

Well patterns are made. I was hoping to be a cheapskate and use the maps on the bottom side but I think I have to break down and make maps specifically for it. Materials themselves still need some work

Placed maps on all the hull parts. I have a mess of red boxes and other things to lay down too. I am considering if I wont just place them on the maps or do them via modeling. Latter means I can control the colours more since the maps were faded in the material (fine tuning) The paneling is coloured but its a bit too faded. Maybe I should look into this a bit more. Spec is also coloured, but inverted this allows me to do a more subtle texture but really mutes down the colour.

I've said it enough times but Trek ships are so ubiquitous within the 3D community that it takes something truly great to get me to comment on one, and this is definitely great! Its a nice design and while it holds true to the design ethic of the universe it also manages to break out in its own design direction to make a very solid unique looking ship.

Great work

Well I think it is nearly done just some marker lights and dodads inside of the forward torp bays
