So yesterday I started a trip to Sagittarius A. Just to see the black hole. I'll be charting and mapping along the way. After that, I might hang a left turn and head to Beagle Point. It seems to be the place everyone wants to go to these days.

Part of the problem with the fuel scoop size is where I bought my Orca i.e. Jacques Station. I bought the biggest one they had. Which isn't a 6.

So I pulled up eddb.io and searched for a class 6 scoop near Colonia and found a station selling a 6A in Ratraii. Since I wasn't that far out (about 40 jumps) I turned around and went back. Only to discover that my Orca couldn't land there because they only have medium landing pads. I hopped back to Colonia: Jacques Station and bought a Krait Mk II just to go and buy the scoop. On the way, I thought about how most stations I found out in the black are the small, box like ones; medium landing pads only. So I pulled all of my upgraded modules out of the Orca, put them in the Krait and sold the Orca.

Now I'm heading back out to Sagittarius A and yes, it can top off the 32 ton fuel tank in 30 seconds or less. Right about the time the COVAS yells "temperature critical".

So thanks for that Jedi! I stop for fuel more often, but it still feels faster.

I haven't even logged in since DW2 started.. hehe. I'm out in the black already, just headed in a different direction. No idea where I'll wind up, probably take the scenic route around and stop by Beagle Point along the way.

I'm headed out the lower arms going to explore the Hawking's Gap for ruins and awesomeness. Sold my Krait MKII for a DBX just for the jump range. Gonna try to get Elite by doing some exploration for a while. That and my kids have gotten bored of me mining asteroids lol.

I had a good night last night. Made 60 jumps, doing some scanning and charting along the way. Got first to discover and map on 3 earth-like worlds (about 3 million credits each once I sell it) and 4 or 5 water worlds (about 1 million each).

Stopped on SCHEAU FLYI JM-I c11-2220 1 for the night. Screenshot below.

With the class 6A fuel scoop, I've developed a new procedure for fueling: I don't stop! When I come out of a jump, I always veer around the star in front of me to line up on my next jump target. Now, I veer off just until I skim the edge. By the time I fly past it, I've refilled my tank. No more stopping for fuel!

I've stopped in PHROI FLYUAE UF-Q C21-5861 for the night. I'm now 130 jumps from Sagittarius A. I'll be at the black hole tomorrow!

Then, if I decide to go to Beagle Point, that is going to be my longest trip ever.

Today I reached Sagittarius A, the black hole at the centre of the galaxy. Got a nice screenshot too!

Good thing.

After admiring this impressive sight, I noticed something to the side labelled The Centre. I targetted it and headed that way. Turned out to be a tourist beacon. Just as I was closing in on it, I lost control of my speed and slammed into it. Which normally wouldn't be so bad except, because I'm out in the black, my shields were off-line.

I died. Back at Jacques Station. And I lost the 511 systems scans I did on my way out! That included first to discover and map on THREE earth-like world (one of them terraformable) and 7 or more water worlds (one of them terraformable). AAARRRRGGGHHH!!!! I probably lost 20 to 30 million credits for that.

Ah well.

From Jacques, I'll be heading out to Beagle Point next. I think that's actually a shorter trip than going there from the black hole.

Man, that sucks. There wasn't a tourist beacon when I was there, but I did overheat quite a bit flying past the black hole.

I didn't get close enough to the hole to overheat. I didn't notice any heating issues at all. Or I was to busy admiring the black hole to notice my temperature!

Changed my mind; I'm heading back to the bubble. I decided I want to work on reputation for awhile (to unlock some other ships) and look into getting the Guardian FSD booster. There's some nice tutorials for that on the internet. I expect to make about another 142 million on the way back.

Trip back to Sol is off to a good start (I haven't died!). I made just over 53 million credits in exploration data in my first day. I have about six more days to go.

I wouldn't go shieldless even out in the black, hell my ship I'm using for DW2 is a fully armed and shielded Krait MKII.

I carry a weak shield, but I only power it up when I'm landing.

Oh sorry to hear that. That does hurt...

Would never go out without at least a bit of a shield. You never know what's coming. A 3g planet for example.

That's what I was doing too. But I wasn't landing on the tourist beacon.

And since when are beacons tougher than a 1,000 tons starship???

I almost forgot; on Sunday I was promoted to Elite Explorer. Yay! Now I have access to Jameson Memorial (they sell every ship in the game!).

Jameson is good but you only get a 10% discount. It is well worth shopping around to find the ships and modules you want on a Li Yong Rui system and get 15% off. Remember the less you pay for your ship and modules the less your rebuy insurance will be.

Unless you're at the point where money's not an issue. I can spend fifty million on a new ship (like the Mamba) just to try it out for ten minutes and then get rid of it.

The convenience of having everything in one place makes Jameson the go-to shopping spot for me. It's not my home system, but it's only a couple jumps away from Earth.

Yeah, I can earn 50 million in a couple of hours of exploration.

The past few days, I've been flying my Type 9 and playing trader. I've been examining markets, finding good trades. Last night I was exploring the markets around Shinrarta Dezhra (Jameson Memorial). So far, the best route I found is between Sol and Luyten 674-15. Sol buys Domestic Appliances and Luyten buys Polymers. On a round trip I make 6,788,204 CR. It takes between 15 and 16 minutes to do one round trip, so that makes 27,152,816 CR per hour.

Last night I bought a Krait Mk II and fitted it for mining. Tonight I'm going to try my hand at mining in Shinrarta Dezhra and see how I do.

So I bought Voice Attack on Steam, which allows you to issue voice commands to key bindings in various programs. I also found a free voice pack called KICS for it, which was designed for Elite: Dangerous. So now I can voice command anything in the game that has a keybinding associated with it. It's very cool!

Mind you, when it comes to interacting with the menus (targeting panel etc.) I can still do that faster with the keyboard. But, if you're wearing a VR rig, this pretty much eliminates needing to use the keyboard.

Now that I've got that done, I'm going to create a profile for Star Trek Online, so I can yell "Fire torpedoes, full spread!" and my ship will unleash the fury!

Yeah, I'm a kid at heart and I love gimmicks.

I got that prog ages ago. But my old Win7PC with German language setting seems to have problems understanding my English. Or maybe my English is that bad.... No I think the speech recognition software is a bid old by now. But I loved it when it worked. ^^

You know they have a few Trek actors doing voice packs?

Rigel, check out HCS voicepacks. If you're anything like me you'll be like a kid in a sweet shop. I bought a load of them, there's nothing quite like having Brian Blessed shouting random movie quotes at you when you jump lol. The Bill Shatner one is nice too.

Amras, I find every so often I need to retrain the voice recognition otherwise it gets less responsive. Especially after getting a new microphone.

I have seen the HCS voice packs. Too rich for my blood. I just found the option to add a sound to a command (in Voice Attack) so I think I'm going to use Siri on my iPhone to record my own responses. The in-game voice is very similar to Siri anyways.

I watched the video of the William Shatner voice pack. And many of their other videos too. I think the Shatner one is the best one. The others are just waaaaay too chatty! Which is maybe good for cellar dwelling gamer boys who have no real friends (yes, that was a shot across the bow! Yes I know one of those and he still lives in his parents' basement even though he's almost 50 years old now). The Shatner one, at least the part they played in the video, is more like what I want my computer to be. Just straight forward responses, the odd joke here and there.

The KICS one uses a lot of quotes from Firefly/Serenity. You say "auto dock", the auto dock starts and KICS says "This landing will get interesting." You can then say "Define interesting" and KICS responds "Oh god, oh god, we're all going to die." Stuff like that.

I'm developing a profile for Star Trek Online. The tough part is figuring out how to refer to the action bars without it a) being a multiple word sentence and b) without having to make a separate profile for each character. I have four action bars in the game which are bound to the number keys; ctrl number key; shift number key and alt number key. I thought calling them "1 1" (first row first skill) and "2 1" (second row second skill) would be easy enough, but the speech system has trouble with that. I'll say "2 5" and it will press the second key and fifth key on the first row. I don't want to have to say "first row fifth skill".

I could assign the skill name to it, i.e. torpedoes high, science team etc. Although all of the characters have some skills the same, they have more which are unique to their class and what skills they and their officers have, so I'd have to do a profile for each one. Which, at the end of the day, may be the best solution.

Meanwhile, I've got my Trader rank up to 79% on Broker. Got a nice little run going between Sol and Luyten 674-15 which makes me about 10.5 million per hour.

After starting my journey to the far side of the galaxy on Distant Worlds 2 all those months ago, I finally made it to Beagle Point a couple of weeks ago. Taking an extended break until the rest of the fleet gets here next month...

I think most of the surviving fleet has already been and gone at Beagle point. I'm still a few thousand light years away but I should make it easily before the deadline.

A few days ago, I finished a trip out to the new Explorer's Anchor. I went out to the Cat's Paw Nebula, then swung towards the galactic core. I made just over $194 million credits scanning and mapping along the way! LOL

Now I'm hanging around the core and charting systems in the area. For a little while. Then I'll wander over to Beagle Point and see what the charting looks like in that area.

I'm probably going to make the return journey soon, certainly within the next couple of weeks. So far, I'm roughly halfway between Pioneer and Elite explorer rank. I'm certainly hoping to make it to Elite by the time I make it back to Explorer Anchorage.

I made Elite Explorer some time ago. Just honk every system you pass through and you'll rank up in no time!

I've taken to posting my adventures on my facebook page, along with screenshots and videos.

I left Explorer's Anchorage about 4 days ago, got about 4k LY out then turned around an went back. I discovered a neutron star and wanted to make sure I got my name on it. I didn't want to risk losing the data in an accident. That was yesterday. Within the span of about 5 to 7 hours (interruptions for Real Life(tm)) I went back to E.A. and back out to where I turned around, then another 1,00 LY beyond that. I'm in Odin's Hold now.

Oh, I also did my first neutron star boosted jumpts yesterday! But I don't carry one of those field repair units, so I won't be doing that too much. It damages your FSD.
