Default Anatomy - XSI Skin Shader Tests

Had some time today so I thought I'd take XSI's skin shader out for a run. Man there are a hell of a lot of settings to play with with all the SSS etc. I don't think that it came out that bad for puttering around.

The skin itself doesn't look bad at all for just messing around. The thing that is throwing me off is the light on the inside rim of the ear.

Looks pretty decent to me. Some more detail in the actual textures themselves would help sell it a lot more but the shading looks pretty good. Coolio.

Mad Dog did a load of SSS renders in XSI for me a while ago, of my Dragon, and they were set up pretty quickly and rendered very fast too. Definitely seems like a bonus to me

Looks good for a quick playing around with settings. The things that catch my eye as outstanding are a) the translucency on the ear b) the subtle pore detail in the skin and c) the eyeballs are great! Okay, I know the eyes probably weren't done with the XSI skin shader, but they still look great!

But it's not an airplane.

Looking pretty cool there Bill, try messing around with the scale factor and depth settings to get that transluecent ear thing going on.

I'm getting to the point that I'm comfortable enough with surfacing so it will soon be time to concentrate more on modeling.

Aren't you supposed to be making some spaceship piloted by digital goats crash into a school of magic or something??

I watched the video called Ten Reasons to Try XSI; that is a truly amazing piece of software. I wouldn't know how to use half of what they were describing, but I understand the processes well enough to appreciate why professionals would love this tool.

Easiest way to describe it is that it just all works. Its an extremely tight program. And the move back and forth to LW - XSI is much easier since its all buttons with words on it

Im so happy people are finaly seeing how awesome XSI is Its got extremely good rigging tools designed for dummies like me. You can make near professional quality rigs in under 15 mins (that includes proper skinning)

Now Now... lets not get the cart ahead of the horse!!!!

I'll admit that I played with the hardbody dynamics and fun stuff like that. But I'm going to move off to modeling next to get that hammered out in my head.

You know. Me being the big time animator that I am

I've used a very simple form to pose a couple things. But that was just drawing a few bones and hit auto envelope

Ain't I a pro

You might not be a pro in your eyes Bill, but you sure are modest

Bill! Why have you left us hard modelers behind!?

In other news, the skin and lips are fantastic. The eyes bother be a little. They seem a little too specular (I was going to say shiny...).
So from what I've seen, XSI seems like it's geared heavily toward organic modeling, specifically people shaped objects. How is it at hardbody modeling?

Oh its got all the tools you need to do anything it just seems that organics is where it gets the most play time. Time will tell. I'm thinking about doing my next bird in XSI since I have a basic handle on surfacing now...

And the model isn't mine. Its quicker to just export out of Daz Studio
