![]() Howdy All,
Well here she is. As mentioned in my previous thread, I had longed to see JJS Enterprise reworked. With Alex's permission, I set to the task of redesigning her. I have to say, this proved to be way more work than I had hoped, but the end result is someting IM very happy with. The saucer section is pretty much the same , except for small windows. This was something that always bugged me in regards to scale. I thinnk she looks way bigger now. The enginerring section was the hardest to get the way I wanted. I'd take two steps forward in one way and fall behind two or three another. It nearly sent me insane hahaha ! The nacelles were pretty straight forward to correct dimensions. Lighting is a combination of standard and photometric lights with vray shadows. I had originally begun using mental ray and arch & design materials, but gave it the chop after not achieving the desired look. I did come up with a beautiful pearlesant finish with very cool spec and reflections, but found it too over the top. Vray gave me the chance to go to town on this and Im very happy now with the result. No shortage of tweaks I can tell you, and the use of the F Word came up rather often. Render after render........................ tweak after tweak. These renders here are really simply to show her off, so I did not put a lot of effeort into them. I comobined the seperate passes in After effects, added edge blur, some bloom and curves adjustment, but simple and quick. Im going to render out more more stylish shots in the week to come, so I hope you like it guys. I have not thought of making this available for download as yet, but I may consdier it at a later stage when I have tweak the shit out of it. Enjoy ! |

![]() Well at least the nacelles are better now as they are further away from the main hull. I never understood why they did that if you look at how these imaginary things are actually supposed to work.

![]() I never really liked the JJ-prise. The proportions just seemed so off, like a mish-mash of all the E's over the years.

![]() Still not a huge fan of the JJprise either. But I do like the renders, man. Good job on the conversion and rendering. That looks very different from renders out of 3DS Max with V-ray as opposed to Mental Ray. Very clean and precise.
I have the old Intrepid model from the NX era that still kicking around on my HDD. I never finished it. Not sure if I should upgrade my Max from 2011 to 2018, since I have to relearn almost everything again anyways. I'm used to MR and it's materials. But it's been years, so relearning something new could be as productive and not many people to ask about 3DS Max at F3D. Thanks man, great job on this re-work. It's growing on me a bit, but still wish they'd done the design a bit differently. |

I personally like MKF's over JJ's or the one you just mentioned. Man, I'm not looking forward to redoing textures for my Enterprise or new ones for the intrepid. I'm terrible at textures. Good luck with the hunt on getting those last tweaks in. Always something to fiddle with to make it look even better. |
