I'll take a look at it... I do have the exhaust staining on the underside, the problem was that the imagery I was using for reference was for a -4/-5, I believe...

In the meantime, enjoy "Flying Blind"...

Yup, later marks had relocated exhaust stacks.

Thanks. Eventually I'll go back and rig it up...

Integrated the landing gear back into the complete model... tweaked textures accordingly...

Now, put a tail hook on it and it's ready for carrier duty!

Glad you like it!

Had to stop with the landing strip for now, as I'm having issues getting the trees to work correctly (leaf shader/texture issues)... That being said, did some work on the bump and spec for the beast...

The next step is to generate the bare-metal shaders, and then I can start chipping the paint...

It looks lovely.

But I have to say, the panel lines being part of the texture is a bit of a let down and makes it look CG.

Glad you guys like it.

@Rigel - I've messed with cutting the panels before, but that is usually the very last phase I go through, if I ever/even get that far... unfortunately that is also one of the bigger weaknesses of this particular program, in that you have do it completely manually, there isn't a good "free cut" knife-type tool...

Got a little more work done... generated shader sets for "bare metal"...

..."zinc-chromate"...

... and then mixed them all together...

... still need to work on the "mixers"...

That gives her a nice, hot spec hit!

I know what you mean about the cutting in panel lines. I did that with the MiG 3 I built a few years ago. Mind you, I suffered temporary insanity during that project and modelled all of the rivets too!

Well you guilt-tripped me into it... I have the panel lines on the fuse 85% cut... all that is left on it is the belly and around the tail/wing bases... then I just have the wings and tail...

Fuselage panel lines are done... reworked the way they were cut, and got a much cleaner result...

I'M STILL HERE!!!!...

So after trying 2 different processes, and styles of modelling, I finally have a satisfactory way to cut the panels and here is the result...

Fuselage is about 90% complete... still need to do the underside of the nose, and some work along the underside...

Also did a lot of cleanup and detailing, across the entire model...

I AM STILL HERE!!! After going out of state for 2 months (training) and having to deal with a lot of other stuff, I finally have time to post a massive update on this beast...

I finally finished cutting all the panels into the fuse/wings/tail, and have done a lot of detailing and cleanup. On top of that, completely rebuilt the shader architecture, and have been working on accurizing some of the areas, where there were details originally add through textures, and not physically...

1. Panelling / Fuse Detail... Old renders, prior to rebuilding the wing, however panelling is nearly identical...

2. New shader architecture

3. WIP - Exhaust Particle Rig...

The render over the ocean looks very realistic.

The exhaust test looks good too!

Glad you guys like it. It took me forever to get the water and exhaust to look like they do (think 3+ days), but it was time well spent.

Was browsing through a couple of modelling sites, and saw an interesting "What If" thread about the Corsair, so of course I had to check it out. And one of the guys on there had thrown up a really rough drawing of a Corsair in the early Blue Angel colors, so I just HAD to try...

Enjoy!
