Default Space - Solar Flare Armageddon

I was interested in doing some sci-fi shots today, and it donned on me that very rarely is the earth every destroyed by something like a solar flare in science fiction. It's usually an asteroid or alien threat. So I spent some time making the attached image: The earth being destroyed by a solar flare. This is what I suppose would be appropriately called the flash-point of the destruction.

I must admit that this is my first go at something like this, and I also have no scientific basis to know if this is even visually accurate. But I think it has artistic merit.

When the Sun becomes a Red Giant, that’s exactly what will happen.

The movie 'Knowing' has the earth population wiped out by a solar flare. I don't think it destroys earth just lays waste to all life.

Not sure if it would recover or just end up like Mars from such an event. But that is a possibility without the sun going into a Red Giant phase. The sun is a long way from that phase of it's life span though.

By that time hunans will have gone extinct or have mastered space travel and started populating other planets.

I like the image and as far as accuracy goes to what it should look like, I hope we never see it.

Your vision of it will have to suffice!

In terms of the render, it's looks pretty nice.
Scientifically? Very wrong, a flare that large and close would probably have boiled away much of the water on the earth and caused a large proportion of the land to become molten. :P
