Beautiful! I love my home planet.

Regarding the Sagan quote, didn't Hawking say something similar recently? I heard about the statement he made, but I didn't read it.

Lovely images, the second is the strongest out of the two. In the first image the earth is off center to the art board making the text not line up directly with the earth throwing the whole image out. Personally I would move the text to the bottom of the image and center the earth and resize it just slightly smaller. But hay, these are minor issues. Great work. Small question is there actually any land on the images?

I'd rather venture into space so when we DO make contact with aliens, we have a place to go when they wtfpwn earth.

This is as good as it gets. Confirmed by NASA friend to be accurate to true color with minor contrast correction! iow: Atmosphere is FINALLY correct.

Ahh, atmosphere is actually very simple, standard gradients, then in the self illum and diffuse slots I've got a falloff for color/illum set to light/darkness, in the darkness slot I've got a gradient thats the same, but different color set with a proper U shaped gradient in THAT so that it illuminates only the horizon (Terminal) where light meets dark. Lemme know if you want a screenshot, or a file of my atmosphere so you can study them.

As far as the cloud layer: The last two shots dont have it enabled due to memory restrictions, but I use a mix of layers for density and multiple layers of displacement.

Which program did you do this in? It's splendid.

I have been trying to sort out gradients myself in Max. I have really high res images from NASA to use but can't quite get the look like this.

I use 3ds max as well, but I've honestly been perfecting this one mesh for around 10 years now lol. It takes alot of practice and a keen eye for colors.

10 years!

I quit. LOL I'll be an old man in 10 years.

I think I have a decent eye for color. It's getting the materials to do what I want that is the problem.

Well, I'm gonna go start a new thread right now in the WIPs section - go there and post a reply with what you need help with specifically and I'll take a few screenshots to help out.
