Just thought I'd provide a brief update - decided to permanently relocate the Panasonic player to the bedroom (as it's more compatible with the Dell monitor @ 4K) and installed the XBOX One S underneath the TV in the living room.

Now have fifteen titles with the Hunger Games box set on its way, plus Hidden Figures (which was one of my favourite movies recently) pre-ordered for July.

If you do get a player, let me know as I have a spare copy of Ghostbusters (2016) which includes the best HDR I've ever seen on any UHD disc. This is the copy I got free with the Panasonic, but have since obtained a full retail edition with a standard Blu-ray and bonus extras disc.

I've got to say, you were right about HDR. Especially when you see it side-by-side with the standard Blu-ray. I've noticed the big improvement in just how natural the lighting looks, and it seems to have a bigger impact on medium-lit or darker scenes. Scenes at dawn, dusk, or at night actually look like dawn, dusk, or night. It's something you experience in the theater that's been gone from home video until now. (Theater uses a 12-bit encode, I looked it up.. so UHD isn't quite there, but 10-bit is a hell of a lot closer).

I don't have a lot of 4K discs yet, but they've all been pretty good so far. Logan looks fantastic, as you'd expect. I haven't watched the Blu-ray, but I did watch the behind-the-scenes stuff (which is on the Blu-ray) and kept thinking how... bland the lighting and color looked. And it's not even that colorful a movie, but everything just looks so natural with the HDR.

I feel so damn jealous... I don't get my copy of Logan for another five weeks!

I'm getting T2 Trainspotting on Monday, so will be looking forward to watching Robert Carlyle going full-Begbie in 4K/HDR!

That's great thanks. I'm sure I will press the button soon. Just ordered a new PC and am considering a 3D printer, so may be short of funds for a bit longer

Just got back from work and a parcel from Amazon was waiting for me... Not expecting this until Monday, so this'll give me something to watch tonight!

UPDATE: Just finished watching this and the HDR just took my breath away! As Jedi2016 mentioned, the scenes featuring low to medium illumation looks amazing, and the colours just pop out of the screen... And Begbie is psychotic as ever in 4K!

Looks like Guardians of The Galaxy, Volume 2 might be making it's way onto 4K Blu-ray: https://www.cnet.com/uk/news/guardia...st-4k-blu-ray/

Glad you've joined the club. If all goes well, I'll be able to throw in a copy of Independence Day with Ghostbusters (should be getting a second-hand retail copy soon).

Hope Disney gets it act together and releases all the Marvel and Star Wars movies.

My retail copy of Independence Day is due by Thursday, so hope to let you have the old copies of that and Ghostbusters shortly after. I'm working pretty much the whole of next week, so won't get a chance to post them off until early the following week.

Sounds great. I can meet you and pick them up. I'm in Ayr but up in Glasgow frequently.

Watched Oblivion last night. It looked incredible. Particularly the HDR skies.

Get me on gordon@vrgrowth.co.uk and we can arrange somewhere to meet etc
