Arrow Star Trek - Enterprise HD - Two Galaxy class beauty shots.

Hi all - long time no see! Here's two new renders of Dave Clark's amazing Enterprise D:

Rendered in Lightwave. Most of the real work was done in Photoshop. Fans will recognise that one of these shots is a re-creation of a very widely used promo image. Nostalgia factor 9.5.

These two are also on my Flickr account, with others, at higher resolution.

Oh, and if anyone can recommend a good TNG shuttle model for Lightwave, I'd like to include one in a shot...

welcome back Fooman. I like the first one best. The second one is pretty but the lighting is a lot las dramatic, and seems stifled. If I could make a suggestion, there is a bright light on the planet coming from the lower right off frame. Add one brighter light to your scene so the same glares on the hull from that direction.

edit: OH! and make them bigger!

Thanks guys.

Treybor: I agree, but I won't be revising this shot. For me, the composition is a bit lacking, but by the time I realised I couldn't be bothered to move the elements around.

I do have these rendered at double HD, but I only intended to release them at 1920x1080. If anyone from F3D wants them at wallpaper-size, PM me with your screen dimensions and an email address, and I'll send you one.

They both look great, I like the 2nd one better. There are some TNG shuttles in the resource section here. Is this Enterprise mesh hosted here?

Dave's Ent-D isn't available to the public.

Those are fantastic, I really must open her up and play with her again.

They are beautiful shots. Pleased/saddened to say that I did indeed spot the oft-used publicity still homage.

What's the story behind the mesh, then? Is this the one used in the Enterprise finale? EDIT: Nope.

I've often wondered the same thing; I've seen images where it's been used before, but I've never seen it available to the public, and I haven't found a way to contact Dave Clark to find out if he'd allow me to use the mesh. Is he a member on the forums here?

Dave is not a member of the forums and he let the model be used by a specific group of people.

Thanks for all the nice comments.

And yes, as far as I know this model isn't available for download anywhere. I'm lucky and grateful Dave let me have a copy several years back - it's my favourite ship, AND the best LW model in my collection by a mile.

If anyone else has any really good TNG models they'd like to lend me, I'm in the mood to make more images.

That one was by Gabe Koerner. It's very nice especially after he redid the surfacing using nodes. I'll render up some shots sometime if anyone is vaguely interested.

Dave's is nicer, however (weighs in at 1.2mil). He used to be here but left for whatever reason. Neither here nor there really.

It got updated last year IIRC. Though I'm not sure if those updates got out to anyone outside the DU crowd.

Thanks for the info, guys. Was just curious. I can understand models made for production/work not being generally available, like Gabe's - was Dave's built for something, like Ships of the Line?

I've noticed over the years that there seems to be an increased number of 'hobby' models that aren't generally available - is this a trend, were people tired of being uncredited?

Fair enough. I guess that also explains the story behind resource appreciation.
