Default SciFi - To touch the face of God

Made a new Babylon 5 image today. As you can tell, I was thinking about the Space Shuttle Challenger. I like how it turned out. Thanks to Meurig for sharing his Omega Destroyer! Such a great model to work with.

Looks good, I was almost expecting a Vorlon themed image as it is referenced in the Thirdspace movie that the Vorlons where trying to "storm the gates of heaven and touch the face of God himself" when they built the gateway.

Glad you like it. Come to think of it, you're right about the Vorlon thing. I can see why you would think that. However, I got the title from a quote President Reagan said during the speech concerning the Space Shuttle Challenger accident in '86.

I like the black borders. To me, it shows a sense of contrast. Bottom line... it just depends on one's taste. Glad you like the image.

And he was quoting a poem written by a pilot in World War 2 (or was it 1?).

An SR-71 pilot once said that for him to touch the face of God he has to slow down and drop 10,000 feet.

I looked and found that John Gillespie Magee, Jr. (9 June 1922 – 11 December 1941) had wrote a poem with that quote in it. It's called "High Flight". Magee's posthumous fame rests mainly on his sonnet "High Flight", started on 18 August 1941, just a few months before his death, he had flown up to 33,000 feet in a Spitfire Mk I, his seventh flight in a Spitfire. As he orbited and climbed upward, he was struck with the inspiration of a poem — "To touch the face of God." He completed it later that day after landing.
