Okay, here is my appreciation to this beautiful model with Jmoneys great textures: a beauty shot and a little scene.

I entirely concur with Lonewriter, this is an outstanding piece of work. How did you create the background, if I may ask.

Thank you, guys.

I created 8 rocks of different sizes and shapes, multiplied each with 800-10000 (depending on size) and spreaded them on an orbital ring (only on that 180° that will be seen by the cam).
The spread modifier randomly varies the rotation and size of the rocks and the offset on the normal axis of the ring.
The dust is a noisy visible spot parallel the long axis.
The planet should be clear.
I rendered out all elements with alphas und put them together in Photoshop.

They're terrific renders and that second image especially is a corker.

That second image does it for me. That might be one of the best asteroid scenes I've come across.

I'll have to try that sometime.

Excellent renders, very well done!

I really love that asteroid field. I've been struggling to create a nice one for animation purposes using particle instances (for ships flying through). I'll have to give it another try.

Also, is that the C4D version you are using? The textures are a little off in some areas in the pictures which is why I ask.

Thanks.
Yeah, I am using C4D. I had a big issue with the secondary hull's UVs that got completly lost when I exported the max file into any other format that C4D is able to read. Even after saving it as .3ds and reloading it in 3dsmax there were no UVs on this part.
I ended up by using the parts that came over well and made new UV maps for the secondary hull.

The last two months have really made me wish we had more feature and front-page slots. Again, I found myself in a real dilemma because there were so many images that could have been in either slot. Thanks for your participation and congrats on the front-page slot.

I'm working on that too, they are not easy, I hope mine come out half this good. How did you do the dust?

Bob, thank you for the front page slot.

The dust is a parallel spot with a noisy visible light along the equator. I used Photoshop to cheat the central recess. That was okay for a still image. But I still want to do an animation with this scene. I tried out some particle set-ups and volumetrics, but this always end up in astronomically large render times. But I found a promising plugin that makes good smoke and renders fast.

Default 3rd season D?

Has anyone attempted a mesh yet, of the 3rd season Enterprise D with the more pronounced hull plating and the rounder deflector?
