Default SciFi - Jupitert and Io

I've been messing around with the recently released Jupiter and Io maps. Of course 2001 leaps to mind.

Discovery by Sean Kennedy

Starbase1 was also kind enough to let me try out his great Cosmic Butterfly model

Cosmic Butterfly by Nick Stevens
Jupiter by Nick Stevens
Io by Bjorn Jonssen, packaged by Nick Stevens.

Not going for any sort of realism more a poster/illustrated feel to both. And yes the scale is way off but call that artistic license

Awesome! Submit them to Resource Apreciation. They'd fit right in.

I just love both of these - it's work of this quality that makes me release stuff to the resources round here...

There's a simple bold composition to the Io and Jupiter one that I really struggle with - really powerful layout with perfect use of blank space for balance.

The Cosmic Butterfly One - just the right amount of light in all the right places to show everything without it feeling like cheating, and a wonderful sense of the CB powering into the scene (not bad for a ship with 9 kg thrust!)

It also made me think - could the Sun Ship go to Jupiter? Well, the fuel is a low proportion of the mass, so with extra fuel it would just get faster and faster - maybe a reduced crew to make way for supplies, but I suspect it would be no big deal.

Oh, and while I am at it, the version of Jupiter in 2001 was very washed out - which is some ways was a lot more realistic than more modern CGI versions of the planet. (They also got the hazy unenhanced Earth exactly right too!)

Really? I thought it was microgramma, but I seem to be clearly outnumbered!

The one in 2010 was quite breath taking in my humble opinion.

Both really good images, but the cosmic butterfly steals the lime light…keep them coming

I thought this month would be a little easier since there hadn't been quite so many images to the finished art sections. Was I ever wrong, I had to boil it down to six and this was one of them. Congrats on the front-page slot!

Both great images but I prefer the 2001 one myself.
