Default Star Trek - Uss Vengeance

Here's the USS Vengeance from Star Trek: Vengeance. Who's gonna be the first one to model this bad boy?!

Interesting..............

It has some interesting elements, but it doesn't feel very "Starfleet" either.

I like it. I'm no big Star Trek fan but I'm really liking all the hard edged bits. It looks really aggressive and not pretty like most star fleet ships.

I'm thinking it's not really a Starfleet design, but rather a design by the bad guy to use their own tech to wipe out Starfleet.

I kinda like the idea of the hole through the saucer (not in terms of practicality...) but the rest of it looks like it was thrown together.

If a guy were building it as a physical model, it's like he spent all his time on the saucer, and threw together a whole bunch of styrene panels and greebles to finish the rest of the ship because the deadline was breathing down his neck.

And now that you mention it (since I didn't look that closely at first), the textures are terrible and uninteresting. I don't know if it's a trick of the light, but it doesn't seem like the textures on the saucer match with the textures on the neck. The neck panels look larger, and for some reason, looks like it has a poorly executed bump map.

What's Star Trek Vengeance? I like it except for the doughnut hole in the saucer section.

He means into darkness although the Russian release of the film is called Star Trek Vengeance. Looks like its got some tech and design influence from the Narada, there was also talk that it was a stealth ship hence the hard angles .

Should we have an informal ban on modeling it?

Hard angles = stealth ended with the F-117. Now it looks outdated.

The more I look at the design, the less I like it, and the more I get disappointed at the designers for not coming up with something that looks better.

LOL I think that would be a first. Maybe MKF would be willing to re-model it.

Ooh so much hatred!! Ha ha. Actually now that I've had time to look at it, some of you have made valid points. Especially some of the texturing does look like its just been slapped on. As I've said before, I'm no Star Trek fan so can't get hooked up on specific details about federation ships. I have to admit, I didn't like the design of the Enterprise in the last movie either. I do like the hole in the saucer section on this design!
I'm a Star Wars fan above anything else so I'm beginning to worry about J J Abrahms design choices. This is the guy who chose to use a beer factory as the Enterprise engine room remember!

Hmmm, you could have a point, a beer factory engineering and now we have a doughnut saucer...I guess we'll see Imperial Starbucks destroyers in the next Star Wars film.

UGHHH damned hotkeys lost my whole post.

Why work hard? because it is the JOB to. You have to sell the movie so even if it is seen for 20 min you do not halfass the work. It is not the same as some hobby game or a tv ep where you rush to finish something in a day. It is a multi million dollar film not some 2grand contracted design.

It makes the jjprise look good.

None of the lines or shapes interrelate to the silhouette of the ship. Too many influences and design queues from TNG movies. Things like those huger 5X sized lifeboats. (if that is what they are, design is way to similar to not be) Poor design, with the idea bigger is better without taking physics into mind such as what will or will not scale. Designer seems to have forgotten a deflector is not just some glowy thing on the ships belly but a communications array. Then the overall general lack of continuity with anything jjcanon. It stinks a lot of the ugly side of STO.

Overall I am very disappointed in this "thing" Even the name reaks of condescending attitude. A man out for vengeance commanding or stealing a ship called vengeance. UGH

I hate it when writers/producers/directors/whoever is responsible decides to take something obvious and beat you over the head with it because they think you're too stupid to get it without their help.

They could just have taken a look at British Royal Navy ships to get a whole bunch of awesome and non-regional names.

Furious
Formidable
Indomitable
Implacable
Indefatigable
Conqueror
Thunderer
Dauntless
Warspite

I don't even know how many other good names they have or have used for ships. And while I admit that they've named eight different ships (dating back to 1758) Vengeance, there are many other good names that conjure similar imagery without being so obvious...

Looks like it was designed with LEGO! I like the saucer slightly and the nacelles. again, like the JJ Enterprise, they look like they were hot rodded. I'm not all that good at building starships but even I could have come up with something better than that engineering section.

Good Luck Star Wars fans. JJ butchered Star Trek. maybe Star Wars will survive the lens flares, apple store sets and"WTF did they do to the ship?" (re)designs

Funny to read this all a year later...

Crippled, you forgot the

USS Flatulence

And a liberal dose of Generic Panels...

Default Remodelling

I know how much you guys hate the 2009 enterprise, but would you lot be offended if I remodeled it using the Hard edges and sharp corners commonly found in the star wars universe? Because it's not vengeance Hard edges, and I'm manually modelling the panels, not using generic textures. Plus there'll be more details. But I want to know whether Hardcore trekkies will despise this.

First of all, welcome to Foundation 3D!

Your first mistake is calling them trekkies; they prefer to be called Trekkers. I once heard it explained thus: what do you call a person who jogs? A jogger, not a joggie. What do you call a person who runs? A runner, not a runnie. Etc.

As for people hating the Vengeance regardless of how you model it, who cares? Will you be modelling this ship to score bonus points with Trek fandom, or would you be modelling it for your own pleasure? If the answer is for your own pleasure, then damn the photon torpedoes and full impulse power ahead!

Seriously, don't worry about what people think of this ship as a design. If you like it well enough to model it, go for it. Start a work in progress thread (w.i.p.) and post your work. Even if some of our members don't like the subject material, they will still chime in with useful advice on how to build it. They really are that friendly here.

Once again, welcome to Foundation 3D; I look forward to seeing your work!
