Still working on the wings and how the armament will attach. It's amazing how simple current armament mounting really is. Little more than a block stuck on the ends of the wing with stuff mounted to it.

This is what I think the basic tank buster missle luanch would look like and how it would attach.

Finally made good progress on the wings and weapons. Unless I see something I really don't like I'll be moving on to the gear, my least favorite part.

Landing gear, egads! What was I thinking? This turned out to be more of a pita than I had expected. Still, it's in, very compact but in. It does show the nature of just how compact and how small a target this craft makes. It's a flying weapons pod when it gets down to it.

I've mocked up a couple of modeler shots showing gear deployed and VTOL. The extreme VTOL position would be for hovering and rotating in a 360 degree circle while deploying ordinance.

I'm not sure if I will make a textured and animated version in time or not but I'm working on it.

My g-d Bob... this thing is a flying ammo hopper. I like it.
The high aspect ratio wings will give it plenty of lift, although it will be really heavy for it's size so it will probably have to be moving fast, although since it's for ground support, that might not be a bad thing. I like how the engines and the tail match so well. It's a very cool design. Good job!

LOL, thanks. I noticed after it was all done just how compact it really is. I don't think I had intended it to be quite so snug. I don't think I would want to fly one, it might actually be claustrophobic.

Working on textures, a tedious task for me, here's what I have so far.

I love the tail image. Very cool. Just one thing I noticed now though, shouldn't the leading edge of the tail fins be round and not flat?

Thanks, that was a good point, solved it in the nest update.

Just working with the maps and the surfaces. I decided I need more surfaces so spent a good deal of the morning rearranging before I could move on with maps. Made several changes to the maps after studying A-10 squadrons which would be the closest type. In addition I decided to go with a new squadron on new craft and new role.

I've also made a few changes to the design, I wasn't happy with the plain horizontal stab.

The A-10 is considered a CAS aircraft and while the HA-1 Griffin can certainly provide that it can also be far more aggressive in seeking and destroying. In some ways you could consider it equivalent to a killer sub. It is uniquely designed to hunt and then assume superiority of the area.

Whoa that is a tight fit in the cockpit. Wouldn't want to be in a headon in that little craft.
I like the design though.

Got it, cool!

I love the cockpit, I have never ever been good (or really even figured out) how to model the cockpit and make it fit in the frame.

Thanks, cocopits and landing gear are always the hard parts for me. For some reason I have a mental block on them and I just have to work my way through it.

I thought I would be working on the rest of the textures this monring but as it turns out I spent more time on the cockpit and pilot. It's better now and it'll have to do even though I think it could use a lot more work. I decided for time considerations to go with a blocked in cockpit and use texture maps for the details. Just not enough time left to get everything the way I would like and make the end of month deadline.

Thanks, waiting on a rad render right now to see if I like the results before moving on with textures. I'll post it here and if I like the maps then I'll work to finish them up. After the color maps I have bump and weathering to do.

That looks fantastic! Except for one thing in the cockpit that drives me nuts whenever I see it in a sci-fi or futuristic movie... Why, oh why, is there instrumentation behind the pilot?

Ugh, you caught that. Simply because I couldn't be arsed to redo the textures or the panel.

Sigh, two days of fiddling and fussing and I am not happy with the surfacing. I have lots to do.

It's a cool render, I like how the pilot is illuminated by the instrument panel. How are you making the color maps?

Ok, a couple of final renders. I believe I will have an animation done tomorrow as well. Whew! It took both Bill and I to finish this up since I hit a wall with the textures, so I guess you could say we subcontracted the paint work.
