Default SciFi - Pluto Station

Hi there Chaps. Let me introduce myself.

A Few of my friends on other communities recommended I should join here, so I finally got round to it I'm a Lightwave hobby user, and have been for a few years.

For most of those I've been working on a never-ending project to build my Space station, in roughly a Startrek style, called Pluto station.

you can see images of it, as I've progressed in skill, competence and ability in my portfolio ->

http://www.3dghetto.com/tobian/portfolio/

it's a super huge object I can't load in to memory all at once (about 6 million polies last time I checked) so I work on it in bits, till I can afford a 64 bit machine

I've been experimenting with reflection based shaders for it recently, as well as playing with normal mapping (yes they are a bit excessive, I need to make new one's hehe).

Here to start me off on the forum is my latest render, which went surprisingly quickly, of the very bottom part of the station.

All comments and crits welcomed

You've got one hell of a station there, inside and out. I especially like the interiors. And - postmam Pat has a chopper??

Cheers guys! I am getting slowly better with each bit I am doing, and the new improved shaders are making it all look good I'm trying to be consistent, so it should all look of a piece when done

Glad you all like it Sadly I am not the fastest modeller, especially with this, as I am extremely accurate, and over the top with it hehe

and yeah postman Pat has a chopper, I modelled it from production photo's, with him in it

Just checking out the portfolio its nice to see the skills progression from top to bottom...

That station is nice, it almost inhabits a midway point between Trek and Babylon 5

Great stuff, I look forward to seeing more

I wasn't aware I had an internet following?!

Cheers and thanks for the welcome on the forum guys!

Any tips techniques of ideas are always welcome, bearing in mind it is a WIP.. and don't go suggesting crazy detail or uber textures... the thing is high enough of a hit on my CPU as it is

I know that SFMers and well Spinquad people would know me, but gee, I had not realised I had entered Z list celebrity status!

YAY I am slightly more anonymous. Sadly I ran out of letters to bump myself down the list

Yes, I didn't want to be presumptuous, but this should be called the Endless Pluto Station, it'll be going on for a while yet!

That is an fantastic job on the station. I'm impressed by the work you've put in on not only the exterior but the interior as well. I'm floored.

Minor update Just been testing out the new reflection shaders in LW 9.5, so I thought I'd show you an early WIP of my lower monitoring room interior. Needs a lot more detail... and safety railing

The reflection is almost a bit too smooth, as I quite liked the grainy look before Still need to sort out my carpet normal map, it's slowing down rendering a lot for some reason. Hmm.
