LWCad 3.5 has a very powerful rounding tool called mass round, you can select all edges , a single edge or any edges you wish to round. Works very well and all the time, however you can not do complex rounding such as vertibevel can. It is strictly a rounder but you can dial in the radius, how many segments etc, fillet or chamfer. It also has angle slider so that any edges with polygons over that angle do not get rounded.

Not to mention the really cool road building tools it has as well, a very powerful and useful plugin.

That's what Lightwave 9 does now. All those things....

True but nowhere near as fast or easily though. LWCad really does speed up things, try real time booleans that work, a presets library for windows etc that you create previously and can use in future projects then with a few clicks you have an apartment building wall populated with windows properly booleaned in to the wall and precisely set. very handy for modeling all types of models not just architecture.

You really should check it out for yourself.

Any ways getting off topic in a big way , sorry about that.

Ok everyone... been sick at home the last two days so I've had a chance to work on this a bit.

The first picture is a compare between the old Railcar mesh and the new one...You can definitely see some changes.

The second is a picture of the three cars I have reworked...including the creation of the caboose.

This is just beautiful! Fantastic job on the train. I have thought about doing some Firefly models but never was able to track down enough refs. This train reminds me of the pre-war Hudson streamliners. Keep up the great work!

Thanks! Yeah, Lee Stringer sent me some images of the trains he based some of his design off of. Very 20-40's in design.

They were going for the "something old/something new" feel. I think his design was top notch.

He also used some nurnies from his original Battlestar Galactica model on the mechnics of the locomotive. Pretty cool re-constructing them.

BTW: If you really want some firefly refs I have many. I can't share some of then with you as they are part of my NDA with QMx and the ones shared for this project, but I can share most that I collected in the last few years.

I have tons of refs on the Firefly / Serenity (all three versions).
It's a little harder to track down really good ref pics ofd the the other vehiches.
I have a few for:

Jubal Early's ship (from objects in space)
Niska's Skyplex (from train jopb and war stories)
The Police ship (from the message)
The Space Bazaar (from the message)
The hovering estates (from trash)
The hover robot dumpster (from trash)
The Blue Gloves' ship (from Ariel)
The ambulance (from Ariel)
The SS Waden (from out of gas)
The Hover Mule
The Reaver Skiff
Misc. Alliance ships
Misc Reaver ships

Also about a hundred various Firefly inspired ships.

wow,.. absolutely fantastic.

Sean, Thank you so much for providing so much inspiration. Your attention to detail is amazing. Even as someone that has seen that episode a hundred times would've been wowwed with 'something in the ballpark'. Your pursuit to the fine details has made me a better modeler.

When I see your work, it makes me want to go back over my own models and fix my lazy "shortcuts"

..again, I thank you and I look forward to more eye candy!

Gotta love those streamliners, hope you mind me posting a pic of a Hudson I did a really detailed model of one of these a while back and really developed a love for the style.
Pretty cool re-cycling Galactica components on the train design. I just love that kind of stuff, really nice touch.
Thats a very kind offer on refs, many thanks. I fancy having a go at the Police cruiser from The Message. It really doesn't show up in close up at all as far as I can tell, but I like the "feel" of it.
Keep up the great work!

Wow. The Mallard. I have actually been pulled by that train in 1988 on a fantastic steam trip between Settle and Carlisle. The sound made by these engines are something else.

You can see where he got his ideas from.

Looking good Treybor.

I'll post the refs I have of the police cruiser when I get home.

SmallWorld,

This is all I have.... No orthographic images. Just screen caps at various resolutions.

I'm partial to these things, doesn't seem terribly beyond my modeling ability either... I may have to try and make one

I really like the way this thing is shaping up, I've always had a soft spot for trains... old/new, classic/scifi, or just loud and graffiti covered with broken air conditioning

Ah the Tohoku-class cruiser. The Flying City. I made one of these in low detail for distance shots. The overall shape is accurate, but the refs I have suck. The last four are my mesh.....

Wowza! That looks really great - especially love the details atop the engine!

Being able to admire this beaty at rest - it will probably look better than the original!

Good question, considering this vehicle is a mag-lev and the "locomotive" would not actually propel it. It probably just generates electricity for the rest of the cars.

That's what I thought.. unless it actually provide some propulsion as well. But I think not.

As far as I know, all of the propulsion comes from the magnetic waves on the rail.

But then, that far into the future, who knows? After all, they needed a Firefly class freighter to catch up to the thing, so I must have been clocking some impressive speed.

Been playing around with textures:
Need to fix the name plate of course... hahahah

It's a little filthier than the original.
