Did the paint job on the underside fuselage. Just need to do the side parts of the underside paint and the oil cooler.

Also started playing around with bump and spec maps. I was looking at some diagrams that showed how the plane was made of three basic materials; aluminum alloy, tissue covered wood and fabric. I used different textures in those different areas, then turned them into greyscale maps.

I finished up the texturing on this thing today.

I am now declaring this project done!

Here's a couple of renders of the final product (in a not so glorious environment).

Tomorrow I'll see about doing some renders of it in flight.

The spec could use some variation but that is a shortfall of the tut not your work.

Thanks aussie3d; keep at it!

Okay Bill, here's the 2k version of the spec map I'm using on the starboard side. As you can see, it's comprised of the three different materials the plane is made of; metal, tissue covered wood and fabric.

The image seems to have more variation in it than the render would suggest. This map is applied to the spec channel at 50%, the gloss channel at 40% and the bump channel at 10%.

Do you think I need to up the spec or the gloss? Or lower a setting? Does the map need work to emphasize the variations in colour?

Really great finish to your Mig, and especially the detail in control movement placements., Also like the pilot details...jealously sets in.....

Here's the same beauty shot with the winter colours on the plane.

I really had to change the spec settings and the light intensity to avoid having the plane come out as a bright white silhouette.

Nice job! Looks sweet. I started a P-51 a while back, I might have to finish it when I'm done with my current project.

Thank you.

And then you could do a render of some P-51's chasing the Enterprise back into space.

The model for purchase in the Foundation 3D has been updated to ver. 2.0. This updates the animation rig for the the model, making it easier to key frame and animate the model as well as refining the rig for the landing gear (automated the wheels rolling and provided steering for the tail wheel).

I remember my attempt at modeling this one... Way back in the days when I was a lad

This looks much more detailed and goes beyond the tutorial material itself (I'm tempted to go back and try to build it again just to get back into modeling).

Thank you. I did get a little carried away with modelling the rivets. But it ended up being worth the effort.

I was recently looking at some photos of MiG's and realized that the main gear door attached to the strut is actually three pieces and the top two pieces fold downward somewhat when the gear is extended. That means I should go back and redo that part, but, later. Someday.

Someday has arrived and I have remodelled the gear doors on this bird. The doors are now three pieces which accordian down when the gear extends. I also added what appears to be a sort of vent to the door as well.

I am calling this the MiG 3 Special Edition. I am also going to donate the SE version to Foundation 3D to become a permanent part of their Premium Membership collection.
