Hi there!
I download the atlantis city from a great modeler dude"thanks for sharing" and we decided to apply some of our space ships to make a cool composite. Hope you like it! ![]() |

Those renders are a bit confusing . . I am losing allot in scale and depth perception . .
I'm thinking the large ship in the foreground needs to be blurred or something, it is throwing things off for me. gp |

Yeah the city is kind of getting lost in it. I think thats whats throwing the scale off. If you rotated the ships about 20 deg so it was more of a perspective shot on them it might give it a bit more of a sense of menace. Like the fight is about to start.

I agree, the scale is not doing this image any favors.

i agree that you can't really recognize the city unless you know it. what could be interesting is to be able to see the comparison size-wise or even show the purpose of the ships. as well as the design/concept of the ship does not tie-in the whole atlantis/stargate world, somehow it look more like terminator.

The models are great, but the DOF makes it seem like a macro picture of a small scale model.

I'm confused... why's the background completely blurred? There's just so much going on that I can't really figure out what's what.
Basically, my first impression was this: The city and the ships are just kinda plopped in the center of the image, and it just becomes a confusing block of different shades of gray. At first I thought that there was some sort of gray fungus growing up Atlantis's towers, and that someone had put some egg-shaped observation rooms up there like the Fuji TV building. I can see that you're working on something that could become a very interesting image, but at this point it's much too confusing for it to work. Here are my suggestions. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the aspect ratio. I tend to prefer widescreen images, because it gives a lot more horizontal space and (for me at least) tends to give more interesting composition options. I like cutting stuff off by the edges of the frame, and for the most part the wide aspect ratio gives me space to the sides (where action TENDS to read better) and cuts off the unnecessary space on top and bottom. At least use a more standard 4:3 aspect ratio. 5:4 is too close to square for me. But that's largely personal preference. But look, you have a lot of space in the frame and you're just not using it properly. It's all big and in your face, but that just crowds it all up. Use your depth. We need a sense of the scale of all the objects in relation to each other, and also a sense of how far the objects are from the camera. For instance, it's very difficult to tell how large those ships with the twin prongs are. Looking at it one way, they could be as large as the giant round one, but are just farther away from the camera, or they could be smaller than the giant round one and are in front of it. This relationship needs to be obvious. For instance, giving the pronged ships motion blur would indicate that they're smaller and faster than the big one. Or if you put a large ship behind Atlantis to show the relative scale of that ship to Atlantis, and then put lots of small pronged ships in front of Atlantis and bunches of tiny ones behind it, that would indicate that they're smaller than the large ship. Things like that. The aspect ratio gives you a lot of space in the frame, so work with it. Atlantis could be smaller in the frame to make it farther away, and then you can spread everything out so that they're not just one large mass of ship. Don't ignore background ships, and definitely make sure that the background image is in focus. Of course if the background image is in focus, then everything has to be in focus. Depth of field is definitely working against you in this case. Again, I see that this image has a lot of potential, but it's falling way short. I think you should take your original concept and refine it a bit so that you can get a sense of the scale of the objects in the frame, and make their distance from the camera more obvious. |

D'oh! . . .
I hate complications . . . . . Ummmmm, cosmos28 . . I am afraid you are going to have to credit this image and give RionE some recognition . . . @RionE, . . cosmos28 hasn't been around since the 17th of January so this could take a bit but I will email him to make sure it gets done . . . gp |

Dude the spec highlights look awesome, is that texture set up or have you tinkered with it? The depth of field looks great.

Probably some random photo stuck in image world to give the ships, buildings, etc.. something to reflect... works nicely, but were it me I'd probably have covered it up with some sort of background image that might have fit the scene a little better.

Sorry for being impolite, it looks like the result of taking the city which looks great with all the details, composing it with a not very detailed spaceship and render it – may adding some crisp in the post production.
